What happened to Rainbow Six Siege?
On December 27, 2025, Ubisoft acknowledged an incident affecting Rainbow Six Siege. Players reported unexpected credits, rare skins, and account ban or unban notifications. Ubisoft temporarily shut down the servers while it worked on a response. TheSixthAxis reported the company’s response, and Engadget covered the shutdown and player reports.
How did Ubisoft respond?
Ubisoft said it shut down the servers, tested changes, and rolled back the unauthorized credit grants. A Ubisoft spokesperson told TheSixthAxis: “To help resolve the issue, we initiated a temporary server shutdown and rolled back the unauthorized credit grants.”
Ubisoft said players would not be banned merely for spending credits granted without authorization. On December 29, after live tests, the company reopened the game and said the rollback was complete. It warned that players might face a queue as services ramped back up. Ubisoft’s Siege updates are the primary source for its player-facing notices.

What did Ubisoft say about players’ inventories?
Ubisoft’s guidance distinguished players by whether they logged in during the affected period, December 27 at 10:49 UTC through December 29:
- Players who did not log in during that window were told to expect no inventory changes.
- A small percentage of players who connected during the window might temporarily lose access to some items they owned.
This was Ubisoft’s notice about the rollback; it did not mean that every player who logged in would lose items.

Did Ubisoft say personal data or source code was stolen?
In a statement published December 30, 2025, Ubisoft characterized the disruption as limited and said there was no indication at that time that personal data or source code had been compromised. The company also said its investigation was continuing. This was a time-qualified statement, not a final forensic conclusion about every possible exposure.
The cited reporting and Ubisoft statements do not establish how the attackers first gained access, the final forensic scope, or a later final investigation outcome. Claims about a particular vulnerability, insider access, or attacker identity should not be treated as confirmed findings.
