Yes. In August 2024, Ubisoft reportedly told some Star Wars Outlaws players on PS5 who had played an older version to install the latest update and start a new save to avoid possible progression blockers. The available reporting does not show that every early-access player was affected or that save files were physically deleted. Ubisoft later apologized to recipients and offered in-game and Ubisoft Connect compensation, but that offer did not restore their progress.
What happened to affected Star Wars Outlaws players?
After update 1.000.002, Ubisoft reportedly emailed some PS5 players who had started playing on an older version of Star Wars Outlaws. The message warned that continuing from a prior save could cause issues and progression blockers. It advised players to confirm they had the latest version installed and then start a new save.

The reported instruction was: “Once you’ve confirmed you have the latest version, please start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended.” Kotaku reproduced the emails in its August 29, 2024 report; the email wording is reported evidence, not an independently published Ubisoft web announcement: Kotaku’s report.
Who was affected—and was it only on PS5?
The incident reporting describes some PS5 players who had played before update 1.000.002. It does not establish how many players received the warning, whether every early-access player was affected, or whether the same issue occurred on other platforms. Ubisoft later listed the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store, and Amazon Luna, but that wider platform availability is not evidence of equivalent save problems elsewhere: Ubisoft’s platform announcement.

Did Ubisoft apologize or compensate players?
In a reported follow-up email dated August 28, 2024, Ubisoft acknowledged the poor experience and apologized: “We fully acknowledge that asking you to start a new game is not the best experience, especially during the Early Access period, and for that we apologize.” The company reportedly offered recipients a Trailblazer trinket and 100 Ubisoft Connect Units. Those were compensation for the experience, not a recovery of the previous save. Kotaku reproduced the follow-up email.

Ubisoft’s September 10, 2024 announcement for Title Update 1.1.2 said the update deployed across all platforms and added cross-progression and saving through Ubisoft Connect: Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.1.2 announcement. That is later feature context, not confirmation that the August saves affected by the restart warning were restored. The available sources do not establish a universal way to recover those saves.
