A Ubisoft account lock can prevent you from accessing Ubisoft online games and services even when you launch a game through Steam. First check who issued the notice and whether it names your Ubisoft account, one specific game, Steam Community features, or an account-linking problem; each has a different remedy.
Identify what is blocked before trying to fix it
Launching through Steam does not bypass a Ubisoft account restriction. Ubisoft says a temporarily locked account cannot access its online games and services or Ubisoft website login pages. A notice tied to one game, a Steam Community restriction, or a Ubisoft–Steam linking mismatch is a different problem.

Steam Support describes a Community block as a restriction on Community participation, not proof that Ubisoft has locked your account: Steam Community bans and restrictions.
What to do for a Ubisoft account lock
Temporary lock
Wait for Ubisoft’s email saying the sanction has been lifted. Ubisoft says it cannot remove temporary locks on request. Do not treat repeated support contacts or attempts to relink accounts as a way around the restriction.

After access returns, change your password and enable 2-Step verification. Ubisoft also advises against sharing credentials and using unauthorized currency sellers. If you suspect someone else accessed the account, secure the associated email account as well.
Permanent lock you believe is mistaken
Appeal through Ubisoft’s account-lock guidance and support. Identify the sanctioned username and clearly explain why you believe the decision is wrong. Ubisoft cautions that repeated or abusive contacts do not help, and appeals after a final review may be ignored.

When it is a game-level ban, not an account-wide lock
Follow the sanction route for the game named in the notice. Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege ban guidance says a player serving that game’s temporary ban can still use other Ubisoft websites, games, and services. That is a title-specific example, not a general rule about every Ubisoft game or ban type.
Fix Steam linking and missing-game problems
Steam is linked to another Ubisoft account
Sign in to the Ubisoft account you intend to use and inspect the Linked accounts section of Ubisoft Account Information. Ubisoft says unlinking and relinking external accounts can have lasting effects on games and subscriptions; a platform account can only be relinked to its original Ubisoft account. If you are trying to connect Steam to a different Ubisoft account, contact Ubisoft support before unlinking anything.

The game does not appear in your Ubisoft library
Sign in to the Ubisoft account used to activate or redeem the game. Ubisoft says games and in-game content stay with the account where they were activated; changing the Steam link does not transfer that entitlement. If the game is still missing, contact Ubisoft support and provide proof of purchase. See Ubisoft’s guidance for games or content on the wrong account.

If you suspect account compromise
Secure the email address associated with Ubisoft first, then recover and protect the Ubisoft account. After regaining access, update the password, enable 2-Step verification, and review login history. These security steps can protect an account but do not remove an active sanction.
Ubisoft’s account security guidance covers protecting the account. If a lock remains, use the lock-specific path above rather than treating security changes as a sanction appeal.

Quick decision checklist
- Ubisoft sign-in fails and the notice names an account lock: establish whether it is temporary or permanent, then follow Ubisoft’s corresponding wait or appeal process.
- Only one game names a ban: use that game’s sanction support route; do not assume all Ubisoft services are blocked.
- Steam displays a red Community alert: read its scope and duration in Steam. It is separate from evidence of a Ubisoft account lock.
- The error says Steam is already linked, or the game is missing: verify the linked Ubisoft account and the account that activated the game before making changes.
- You cannot tell which case applies: keep the exact error text, affected game, and Ubisoft account status handy when contacting the relevant service’s support.
