Ubisoft said on January 27, 2025, that 185 employees across four European sites would be affected by planned restructuring. The announcement marked Ubisoft Leamington in England for permanent closure and named Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections for targeted restructuring. The 185 figure covered all four sites; Ubisoft did not give a Leamington-only headcount.
What Ubisoft announced
Ubisoft’s statement, quoted by Video Games Chronicle on January 27, 2025, distinguished between a planned studio closure and restructuring at three other locations:
- Ubisoft Leamington: marked for permanent closure.
- Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections: targeted for restructuring.
Ubisoft said the actions would affect 185 employees overall. It did not provide a breakdown by site, so the announcement does not establish how many of those roles were at Leamington.
Did 185 people lose their jobs at Leamington?
No. Ubisoft described 185 as the total number of employees who would be affected across the European restructuring—not as Leamington’s headcount or as a count of jobs lost at that studio alone. The company’s January 27 announcement described intended changes; by itself, it does not confirm the final outcome for every employee or the implementation date at each site.

Why was Ubisoft Leamington closing?
Ubisoft said the decisions were part of its efforts to “prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability at Ubisoft.” The statement did not quantify expected savings or give a separate explanation for choosing Leamington for closure rather than restructuring.

Leamington was formerly FreeStyleGames, the studio associated with DJ Hero. Ubisoft acquired the studio from Activision in 2017. During its time at Ubisoft, Leamington contributed in a support capacity to games including Far Cry 5, Avatar and Star Wars Outlaws; those credits do not mean it was the sole developer of those titles.
