Ubisoft announced a company-wide reset on January 21, 2026: six games were discontinued, seven were given more development time, and the publisher planned to reorganize around five Creative Houses. The only cancelled game it named was the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. Ubisoft also identified its Halifax mobile studio and Stockholm studio for closure; it described changes at three other locations as restructurings, not confirmed full closures.
Which Ubisoft games were cancelled?
Ubisoft said it discontinued six games after reviewing its content pipeline in December 2025 and January 2026. The company said the projects did not meet its enhanced quality standards and more selective portfolio-prioritization criteria. Its January 21 announcement named just one: the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.
- Named cancellation: the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.
- Five unnamed cancellations: one mobile title and four unannounced projects. Ubisoft said three of those four were new intellectual properties.
Ubisoft did not identify the other five projects. Lists based on leaks or speculation should not be treated as company-confirmed cancellations.
Did Ubisoft cancel the Prince of Persia remake?
Yes. Ubisoft explicitly listed the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake among the six discontinued games. The announcement did not give a new release date or describe plans to resume development.

Which Ubisoft games were delayed?
Ubisoft said seven games were receiving additional development time, but did not name them. It said one unannounced game that had been planned for fiscal year 2026 was moved to fiscal year 2027. Those fiscal-year labels are Ubisoft’s; the announcement did not provide a calendar release date for that title. VGC’s contemporaneous report also noted that Ubisoft had not disclosed the seven titles.
Which Ubisoft studios are closing?
Ubisoft said its Halifax mobile studio had closed earlier in January 2026 and that its Stockholm studio was closing. It also cited restructuring at Abu Dhabi, RedLynx and Massive. The announcement did not describe those three restructurings as full studio closures, so they should not be counted as confirmed closures.

Ubisoft did not state a confirmed total headcount impact in its announcement. VGC reported that the company did not directly comment on the number of layoffs expected from the restructuring.
What are Ubisoft’s five Creative Houses?
The new operating model groups development and publishing around five specialized Creative Houses. Ubisoft said each would focus on particular genres or brands and have financial responsibility for its portfolio. The company described a Creative Network as providing development resources, while Core Services would supply shared technology, production capabilities and operational services.

Ubisoft said the organization would start operating in early April 2026. The January announcement set out the planned structure and start timing; it did not establish the extent to which the new model was subsequently implemented.
Why is Ubisoft restructuring?
Ubisoft attributed the reset to a more selective AAA market, stronger competition in shooters, rising development costs and greater difficulty creating successful brands. CEO Yves Guillemot also said that exceptional AAA games, when successful, have greater financial potential than ever. These are Ubisoft’s stated reasons for the changes, not independently demonstrated causes for each cancellation or closure.

The company said it wanted to bring decisions closer to development, sharpen focus and adapt more effectively to player expectations. The structure reflects several strategic trade-offs:
- Portfolio concentration versus new-IP investment: organizing around established franchises may focus resources, while the cancelled slate also included three unannounced new IPs.
- Quality goals versus release cadence: cancelling six projects and extending development on seven may support Ubisoft’s quality priorities, but the announcement does not establish the eventual effect on game quality or release timing.
- Brand ownership versus shared services: specialized houses are intended to own portfolio decisions, while the Creative Network and Core Services are meant to share resources and capabilities.
These are ways to assess the plan, not measured outcomes reported by Ubisoft.

What savings and financial impact did Ubisoft project?
Ubisoft’s January release described cost-reduction goals and financial estimates, not verified final results. The company said it expected at least €100 million in fixed-cost savings versus FY2024–25 by March 2026—one year earlier than its initial FY2026–27 target. It also set out an additional €200 million in fixed-cost reductions over two years and approximately €500 million in total fixed-cost reduction since FY2022–23. Ubisoft projected fixed costs on a run-rate basis of approximately €1.25 billion by March 2028, compared with €1.75 billion in FY2022–23.
The same January announcement projected FY2025–26 net bookings of around €1.5 billion and non-IFRS EBIT of around negative €1 billion. Ubisoft said transformation-related decisions resulted in around €650 million in one-off accelerated depreciation. These figures were forecasts and estimates in the announcement, not final reported FY2025–26 results.
The plan therefore pairs a long-term push to lower the cost base with an acknowledged near-term financial impact from restructuring and portfolio decisions. Whether the savings are achieved, and whether the new organization improves game outcomes, cannot be established from the January announcement alone.
