That was a player-count milestone—not confirmation of three million copies sold. Ubisoft later reported more than five million unique players since launch, while its separate break-even outlook referred to Ubisoft as a company, not to the game’s profitability.
How many players does Assassin’s Creed Shadows have?
Ubisoft announced on April 15, 2025, that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had reached three million players in one week. The company’s later Q1 FY2025–26 release, dated July 22, 2025, reported more than five million unique players since launch. These are two milestones reported at different times, not competing figures: the five-million-plus update came later.
Ubisoft’s April announcement also reported an average Metacritic score of 81 at that time. That is a dated review-score snapshot, not a current score.
Did Assassin’s Creed Shadows sell 3 million copies?
Ubisoft’s wording was “players” for the first-week milestone and “unique players” for the later one. Neither announcement says that the game sold three million or five million copies. A player count and a unit-sales figure measure different things; access through subscription and cloud services, as well as console and PC storefronts, means a player total cannot be treated as a count of paid copies.

Ubisoft listed the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Ubisoft+, Amazon Luna, Macs with Apple silicon through the Mac App Store, and Windows PC through Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store in its April 2025 availability description. That is historical platform information from the announcement, not a guarantee of current availability in every region. Ubisoft also described an iPad version as forthcoming at the time; that statement does not establish its present status.
Has Assassin’s Creed Shadows broken even?
The cited Ubisoft announcements do not establish whether Shadows has broken even, is near break-even, or has generated a particular amount of revenue. They do not disclose the game’s development and marketing costs, lifetime revenue, unit sales, or a title-level break-even threshold. Player milestones alone cannot supply those missing figures.

Ubisoft’s May 14, 2025, FY2024–25 earnings release gave guidance for approximately break-even non-IFRS operating income in the company’s FY2025–26 outlook, alongside negative free cash flow. This is a company-wide forecast, not a result or target attributed to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. “Non-IFRS operating income” is also a company financial measure; it should not be read as a game-specific profit calculation.

The defensible takeaway is specific: Ubisoft reported that the game’s audience grew from three million players in its first week to more than five million unique players since launch by July 22, 2025. Those figures show player reach, but they do not reveal paid unit sales or whether the game itself has recouped its costs.
