How digital PS5 game gifting works

A PlayStation Store gift card funds the recipient’s wallet. The recipient redeems its code and uses the balance to select and buy a digital game. In other words, you are gifting spending value—not transferring a license for a particular game you bought on your own account.

For the practical route, buy a gift card from a seller serving the recipient’s market, check its region and terms, and give the code to the recipient. PlayStation says its gift cards are available through online retailers, but that does not establish that every retailer or listing is authorized or currently available. Check the recipient’s region before buying

Gift-card availability, currency, denominations, and redemption instructions can differ by country. The cited PlayStation gift-card page is localized for Norway, so its market-specific details should not be treated as universal. Before you buy, confirm the country associated with the recipient’s PlayStation account and make sure the card’s terms match that store region. If you are unsure, ask the recipient which country their account uses.

How to present the gift

After redeeming the code, the recipient chooses a digital game and completes the purchase using the available wallet balance. If the balance does not cover the full price, they may need another accepted payment method; accepted payment options depend on the market.

Can you buy a digital game and send it directly?

The official guidance cited here points gift-givers to PlayStation Store gift cards. It does not establish a general process for buying a specific digital game on your account and transferring its license to someone else. If your goal is to let the recipient choose a digital game, a region-matched gift card is the supported approach described by PlayStation’s guidance.
