For US players, choose Essential for online multiplayer and monthly games, Extra if you expect to play games in its rotating Game Catalog, and Premium if you want its Classics Catalog, game trials, or cloud streaming. The right tier depends on which benefits you will actually use—not on a universal ranking.

PS Plus tiers at a glance: US prices and benefits

PlayStation’s US plan page listed the following prices when checked in 2026. Each tier includes online multiplayer for modes that require PS Plus, monthly games, and discounts. The higher tiers add catalogs and other features.

Tier 1 month 3 months 12 months What it adds
Essential $10.99 $27.99 $79.99 Monthly games, online multiplayer, discounts, cloud storage, Share Play, and exclusive content
Extra $16.99 $43.99 $134.99 Essential benefits, plus the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics
Premium $19.99 $54.99 $159.99 Extra benefits, plus the Classics Catalog, game trials, cloud streaming, and Sony Pictures Catalog

Prices are listed US subscription prices, not a guarantee of the amount shown at checkout. Plans renew unless canceled; check the current price, renewal terms, and cancellation details before subscribing. PlayStation’s US plan comparison has the current offer.

Which PS Plus tier should you get?

Choose Essential for core membership benefits

Essential is the fit if you mainly need online multiplayer, want to claim the monthly games, and do not expect to use the larger rotating game libraries. It is the lowest-priced tier across the listed US terms.

#1 Best Overall
$25 PlayStation Store Gift Card [Digital Code]
  • Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
  • Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
  • Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.

Choose Extra if the Game Catalog matches your backlog

Extra makes sense when the games in its current Game Catalog are titles you intend to play, and the added cost over Essential is worth that access to you. Check the live catalog before paying: games can change, and a large catalog has little value if it does not include what you want to play.

Ubisoft+ Classics is also included with Extra, but the main decision is whether you will use the added catalog benefits enough to justify the price difference.

  • Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
  • Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
  • Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.

Choose Premium for its specific extras

Premium is the tier to consider if you expect to use the Classics Catalog, time-limited game trials, or cloud streaming. If none of those features matters to you, the tier name alone is not a reason to pay more. Compare the added cost with the particular benefit you plan to use.

What changes between the tiers?

  • Shared benefits: All three tiers include online multiplayer for games and modes that require PS Plus, monthly games, and discounts.
  • Essential: Also lists cloud storage, Share Play, and exclusive content.
  • Extra: Adds the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics.
  • Premium: Includes Extra’s benefits and adds the Classics Catalog, game trials, cloud streaming, and Sony Pictures Catalog.

For a specific game or feature, confirm its availability for your account’s region and tier; catalogs and content can vary. PlayStation’s membership feature comparison provides additional plan details.

Check the catalog before counting on new PS4 games

PlayStation says: “From January 2026, PS4 games will be added only intermittently.” That is not a promise of regular new PS4 additions. Check the current catalog for games you want rather than choosing Extra or Premium on the assumption that new PS4 titles will arrive steadily.

What to know about Premium cloud streaming

Cloud streaming is a Premium benefit. PlayStation Support lists PS4, PS5, and PC as supported devices, but the content available to stream varies. PlayStation’s official US PS Plus page says: “Cloud Streaming requires minimum internet speed of 5mbps (15 mbps for 1080p).” Treat those figures as PlayStation’s stated minimums; your ability to stream a particular game still depends on supported content and availability in your territory. See PlayStation Support’s feature details before subscribing for streaming.

How to decide before you pay

  1. Start with your core need. If it is multiplayer access and monthly games, compare Essential’s price with your budget.
  2. Check the games you actually plan to play. Look through the live Game Catalog and see whether Extra’s lineup includes enough of your backlog to justify the increase.
  3. Identify a Premium feature you will use. Consider the Classics Catalog, trials, or streaming; if none is useful to you, Premium’s additions may not warrant the higher price.
  4. Confirm the terms at checkout. Review the current US price, subscription duration, renewal setting, and cancellation terms before purchase.
