What is Overdrive for Rafa?
Borderlands 4 gives each Vault Hunter a Trait, Action Skills, and branching passive skill paths. For Rafa, Overdrive is the Trait associated with using an Action Skill; it is a combat state to build around, not a separate skill you need to equip. PlayStation Blog’s Vault Hunter overview describes the broader Trait, Action Skill, and skill-tree framework.

Rafa is a former Tediore trooper who fights in an experimental exo-suit. His different Action Skills and passive paths let you shape the build around damage, duration, or survivability rather than following one mandatory setup.
How do you activate Overdrive?
Use one of Rafa’s Action Skills. For the leveling route recommended by the third-party PlayBorderlands Rafa guide, choose Peacebreaker Cannons and activate them when you enter a fight. If combat continues, use the Action Skill again when it becomes available.

- Equip Peacebreaker Cannons as your Action Skill.
- Start a fight by activating the cannons to enter Overdrive.
- Aim for enemy weak points and critical hits while fighting.
- With Juerga invested, critical hits restore some Action Skill duration; activate the skill again when it is available if you are still in combat.
Juerga helps manage duration, but the guide describes partial restoration—not guaranteed or infinite Overdrive uptime.
How to build around Overdrive
Critical-hit and gun-damage route
The PlayBorderlands leveling guide recommends Peacebreaker Cannons with Juerga as its core early route: the cannons activate Overdrive, and critical hits help restore Action Skill duration. The guide also recommends Overdrive-related choices including Barrage, Temerario, and Soltado. Treat these as that guide’s build suggestions, not a complete list of every skill that affects Overdrive or a universally optimal allocation.
Survivability route
If staying alive is the problem, the same guide suggests Shield Barriest for shields during Overdrive. That trades some emphasis on its critical-hit and gun-damage route for added defense. Resiliencia is another Overdrive-related option named by the guide, but it does not establish that this choice is best for every build.

Choose for your play style
Rafa’s branching passive paths and Action Skill options support different play styles. Decide whether your priority is critical-hit sustain, damage, or defense, then select skills that support that priority. The available sources do not establish a definitive ranking of Rafa builds.

What changed in the version 1.6 patch?
Borderlands Support’s version 1.6 notes, published April 29, 2026 and updated July 2, 2026, state in the Rafa section: “Dancer: Overdrive bonuses are now increased by +50%.” This is a patch-specific change to the Dancer class mod’s Overdrive bonuses; it is not Rafa’s base Overdrive bonus. Check the official version 1.6 update notes for the note and newer patch information before relying on it.
What Overdrive details are not established?
The cited sources do not establish exact base Overdrive damage or movement-speed values, nor do they provide a complete, current inventory of skills that modify Overdrive. Avoid treating individual build-guide recommendations as exhaustive. For exact current effects, consult the descriptions in your game version and check official patch notes for subsequent changes.
