The cause is often local: graphics settings, background apps, or one heavy experience. Work through the free, reversible checks below first, and treat new hardware as the last step rather than a guaranteed cure.
First, confirm the problem is frame rate
Roblox Support separates three kinds of lag: graphics lag, network lag, and system lag. They can feel alike, so match your symptom before you change anything.

A true 1 FPS reading is a graphics or system problem. If the visuals are smooth but actions lag, start with the network checks in Step 3 instead.
Step 1: Lower graphics quality manually
This is the first fix Roblox recommends for graphics lag. Roblox Support’s guide How to Reduce Lag and Speed Up Play says: “Lower graphics levels will reduce some of the image/visual quality but it also means that your device works less to run Roblox and may result in a better experience.”

- While in an experience, press Esc to open the in-experience menu.
- Select Settings.
- Turn off Graphics Quality – Auto. Automatic adjustment stays on until you do this, so a manual setting will not hold otherwise.
- Lower the graphics quality manually, then rejoin or continue playing and watch whether the choppiness changes.
If the change helps, you have confirmed a rendering limit. You can raise quality a notch at a time to find the highest setting your device handles smoothly.
Step 2: Close resource-heavy background apps
If lowering graphics quality does not help, Roblox suggests closing unwanted apps that may be consuming system resources. Common culprits include browsers with many tabs open, video or game-recording software, streaming tools, and large downloads or updates. Close what you do not need, relaunch Roblox, and compare the frame rate with your earlier reading.

Step 3: Decide whether the problem is broader than your device
The scope of the problem tells you where to look next.

Roblox’s PC guidance has two levels. Check both before deciding whether hardware is the issue.

- Minimum for the Windows application: DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support.
- Recommended for best performance: a computer less than five years old with a dedicated video card, or a laptop less than three years old with integrated graphics.
Roblox does not promise a specific frame rate even when these recommendations are met. A device that meets them can still stutter in a demanding experience, so use the frame-rate reading in Step 5 to judge the result.
Step 5: Measure your frame rate
Roblox Creator Hub’s performance documentation says: “By default, Roblox games target 60 FPS, which is one frame every 16.67 milliseconds with proper frame pacing.” On Windows, the frame-rate cap can be raised up to 240 FPS.

Watch the reading for a minute rather than a single moment, since a brief load spike can briefly drop the number. Raising the frame-rate cap does not make a slow device render faster; it only removes the ceiling. Use the cap as a measuring tool, not as the fix.

When hardware is the remaining option
Consider a hardware change only when all of the following are true:
- Graphics quality is lowered manually and the frame rate stays near 1 FPS.
- Background apps have been closed, and the problem persists in more than one experience.
- No outage or maintenance is in progress.
- Your device falls outside Roblox’s recommended guidance, or has no dedicated video card and is a desktop.
In that case, a computer that meets Roblox’s recommended guidance is the realistic next step. When comparing machines, look for a dedicated video card and check that the device is within the age ranges above. Roblox can change its requirements and frame-rate controls, so confirm the current pages before buying.
