Not exactly. The game behind the “Road Rash is back” headline is Road Redemption, a separate motorcycle-combat racer inspired by Road Rash—not a new installment of Electronic Arts’ series. It brings back the recognizable idea of fighting rival riders on the way to the finish, but it has its own developers, publisher, and feature set.
Which game does the headline mean?
The 2017 headline referred to Road Redemption. Scroll’s October 2, 2017 article framed its return-of-Road-Rash idea as a question, while noting that many players saw the new game as a successor to the classic. Scroll distinguished the original Road Rash, launched by Electronic Arts, from Road Redemption, which it then attributed to Pixel Dash Studios and EQ Games. Read Scroll’s 2017 article.

The distinction matters: resemblance and inspiration do not make Road Redemption a new Road Rash game. Steam describes it as an action-racing game heavily inspired by Road Rash and Motorstorm. Steam’s Road Redemption listing.
What makes Road Redemption feel familiar?
The shared hook is motorcycle racing where reaching the finish can mean fighting other riders, not simply passing them. Scroll’s preview described kicking and punching opponents, and mentioned firearms in the game’s trailer. Steam’s description likewise presents motorcycle combat and weapons as central features.
#1 Best Overall
- Tonnenweise brutale Waffen.
That resemblance is the basis for the Road Rash comparison. The available sources establish inspiration and similar combat-racing ideas, but do not establish that the games are part of the same series or that Road Redemption is an official continuation.
How is Road Redemption different?
Steam’s listing describes a campaign, weapons, and upgrades for characters, bikes, and weapons. It also lists four-player split-screen co-op, making local multiplayer one of the clearest stated features beyond the solo campaign. These are Steam-listed features, not a comparative assessment of how they play against Road Rash.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. So, is Road Rash back?
Road Rash is back in the conversation, but the game in the headline is Road Redemption, not a new Road Rash release. If what you mean by “back” is fast motorcycle racing with rider-to-rider combat, the comparison is grounded in the listed inspiration and features. If you mean a new entry in EA’s Road Rash series, the cited sources do not support that description.
