Warner Bros. Games confirmed on February 25, 2025, that Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego would close, and that Monolith’s Wonder Woman game “will not move forward.” The company described the decision as a strategic shift toward its Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones franchises.
What Warner Bros. Games announced
In a statement reproduced by Gematsu, Warner Bros. Games said the three studios would close and confirmed that development of Monolith’s Wonder Woman video game was ending. The company described the closures as “a strategic change in direction” and said they were “not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.” It did not identify an individual speaker.
The company said it would focus studios and investment on Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones. That is Warner Bros. Games’ stated rationale; the announcement did not say that any one financial result directly caused the cancellation.
What the Wonder Woman game was meant to be
Warner Bros. announced the project in December 2021 as a single-player, open-world action game with an original story set in the DC Universe. Players would take the role of Diana of Themyscira and seek to unite her Amazon family and people from the modern world, according to the original Warner Bros. Games announcement.

Why was the Wonder Woman game canceled?
Warner Bros. Games publicly framed the decision as a strategic refocus on its key franchises, but it did not give a project-specific explanation for canceling Wonder Woman. A 2025 Los Angeles Times report by Jason Schreier, citing people familiar with the project, said Wonder Woman had been rebooted in early 2024, had cost more than $100 million to develop, and was still years from release. Those details were attributed to unnamed sources, not confirmed in Warner Bros. Games’ statement.
The same Los Angeles Times report said Warner Bros. Discovery had recorded a $200-million write-down in May tied to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, followed by a $100-million write-down associated with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and MultiVersus. These are reported historical financial figures from 2025. They provide business context, but do not establish that either write-down caused the Wonder Woman cancellation.
