Final Fantasy does not give its four player characters fixed personal names. They are known collectively as the Warriors of Light, and players choose each character’s name and class. Setro, Zauver, Flora, and Teol are names associated with the Memory of Heroes novelization—not the original game’s party.

What are the four heroes called in the original game?

Square Enix identifies the group as the Warriors of Light. Its official Final Fantasy I story description introduces four travelers who arrive in Cornelia carrying Crystals, but does not assign them individual personal names.

The original game leaves those names to the player. Nintendo’s official manual instructs players to choose “the names and classes of all four characters.” Thus, there is no single set of personal names that constitutes the game’s canonical party.

Why do some lists give the Warriors of Light personal names?

The names Setro, Zauver, Flora, and Teol are reported for the four heroes in the Final Fantasy I • II • III: Memory of Heroes novelization. They are adaptation-specific names, not names assigned to the party by the original game. A list using them should identify them as the novelization’s names rather than present them as the game’s canonical roster.

Are Garland and the Fiends members of the player party?

No. Garland, Lich, Marilith, Kraken, and Tiamat are individually named story characters and antagonists. Their fixed names do not change the fact that the four protagonists are player-named characters. Also, “Warriors of Light” refers to the original game’s group of four; a singular Warrior of Light in another franchise context should not automatically be treated as one of these characters’ personal names.
