A broad list of It Takes Two’s boss encounters names 18, from Vacuum Tower to Snake Mic. The count is not an official EA taxonomy: some guides include more set-piece fights or phases than others, and names can differ. Here is the broad list in order, followed by what to expect from the first two fights.

Why boss lists differ
Some guides count set-piece encounters or phases that others group together, and some use alternate names. For example, Twinfinite’s shorter index lists Hoover, Tool Box, Shield Wasp, Wasp Queen, Beetle Boss, Giant Octopus, Burrower, Chess King and Queen, and Moon Baboon. “Hoover” is another label for Vacuum Tower; other differences reflect what the guide chooses to count.

- Invite a friend to join for free with friend's Pass, and experience a thrilling adventure built purely for two. Choose from couch or online co-op with split-screen play, and face ever-changing challenges where working together is the only way forward.
- Gleefully disruptive gameplay - from rampaging Vacuum cleaners to suave love gurus - With it takes two, you never know what you're up against next.
- Discover a touching and heartfelt story of the challenges in getting along. Help cody and may learn how to overcome their differences.
A quick index and a timestamped playthrough serve different purposes, so a shorter list does not necessarily contradict the broader sequence. Treat the 18 names above as one useful guide to encounters, rather than a definitive official checklist. Twinfinite’s boss guide index is a shorter alternative.
How the first two boss fights work
The opening boss encounters are Vacuum Tower and the Toolbox in The Shed. Their mechanics rely on the two players coordinating different actions.

Vacuum Tower
Vacuum Tower sprays flaming cans. One player sucks up the cans with a pipe while the other aims a suction pipe back at the boss to return them. Repeat the coordinated attack until the fight ends.
Toolbox
Cody pins the Toolbox’s arm in place with nails. May crosses using the nails and strikes the locks with her hammer. The pair then coordinate a final attack involving the shovel arm. VGTimes’ walkthrough, published June 21, 2026, describes these mechanics.
Rank #3
- Step into the shoes of Cody and May, a clashing couple who turn into dolls through unknown magical means. Trapped in a fantastical world where unpredictability hides around every corner, they must reluctantly learn to overcome their differences, save their fractured relationship, and find their path back home to their beloved daughter Rose
- You and a friend can play couch co-op with a pair of Joycons and a second gamepad, utilize local wireless play by connecting two Switch consoles together, or play online co-op with another Switch player using Friend’s pass
- Voice-overs in Japanese, French, German, and Spanish, as well subtitles spread even further across regions, allow more players to experience the game's unpredictable world
- Filled with genre-bending challenges and character abilities to master as you experience a metaphorical merging of gameplay and narrative to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling like never before
Why co-op matters for the boss encounters
It Takes Two is designed for two players, either in couch co-op or online through Friend’s Pass. EA describes the game as a journey “built purely for two” and notes that Cody and May gain unique, connected abilities with each new level. Boss fights put that design into practice: each character’s action often enables the other player’s next move.
EA lists versions for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Friend’s Pass lets an online friend play without owning the full game, subject to EA’s platform and account requirements. See EA’s official game page for current platform details and conditions.
