There is no verified current official probability for encountering a Divine Altar in Path of Exile. Player estimates range from roughly one per 330–400 maps to about one per 700 blue altars, but they use different denominators and assumptions and are not controlled measurements. Treat them as anecdotes, not as a published drop rate.
What the reported odds actually mean
The available figures come from player discussions, not an official rate disclosure or a reliable, comparable dataset. A map-based estimate and an altar-based estimate cannot be combined into one true chance: maps can differ in their quantity and number of altar opportunities, and the reports come from different game and league contexts.

| Roughly one Divine Altar per 330–400 maps | A 2023 Steam discussion; the estimate assumes particular map tiers, quantity, and altar counts. | Individual player estimate, not a controlled sample. Steam Community discussion. |
| About one Divine Altar per 700 blue altars | A 2026 Reddit discussion; the thread debates how the estimate relates to other altar mechanics. | Community estimate without a reliable dataset verifying it. Reddit discussion. |
Older forum posts describe the altar as rare and mention players going hundreds of maps without seeing one, but they do not establish a reproducible rate. Current 2026 forum discussion confirms that players still encounter and discuss Divine Altars; it does not supply official odds. Older forum discussion; 2026 forum discussion.
Does choosing an altar reward affect the next one?
A January 2023 forum reply says altar rewards do not compete with one another, and choosing a reward at one altar does not change the odds of seeing a reward at the next altar. That is player-provided guidance rather than an official probability statement. Path of Exile forum discussion.

Why your results can differ so much
- Different denominators: one estimate counts maps, another counts blue altars. Neither translates to an individual altar opportunity without more information.
- Different conditions: map tier, quantity, and the number of altars generated affect what a map-based count represents.
- Random variation: an anecdotal average does not predict when a particular player will see one. You might encounter one sooner, or go much longer without one.
- Different contexts: the reports come from separate discussions and dates, so they should not be treated as measurements of the same conditions.
For those reasons, averaging the figures or converting them into a percentage would imply a level of precision the reports do not support. The available evidence supports calling Divine Altars rare; it does not establish a current official chance or show that a particular farming choice guarantees or materially raises the spawn chance.
