The term covers different things: a PC hardware-ID (HWID) spoofer targets device identity, while a console input spoofer makes mouse-and-keyboard controls appear to be a controller. They are not the same technique, and the available evidence does not establish that any particular spoofer reliably works against a specific game today.
What does a cheating spoofer do?
It attempts to make a game or its anti-cheat system receive misleading signals. The signal being changed depends on the kind of spoofer: device identity on PC, or the representation of player controls on console.

These descriptions explain the intended function, not proof of success. A spoofer does not itself demonstrate that a ban has been lifted, that a player can access a game, or that a particular tool is effective or undetected.
What is an HWID spoofer on PC?
HWID means hardware ID. An HWID spoofer is intended to make device-identity information appear different in a context where a publisher uses hardware identification, including for ban enforcement.

In a January 2021 complaint, Riot Games and Bungie alleged that a product called a Vanguard HWID spoofer was promoted as a way for players banned from VALORANT to keep playing. That is an allegation recorded in a legal complaint, not independent proof that the product worked or that HWID spoofers generally bypass bans. Read the complaint filed January 8, 2021.
What is console input spoofing?
A console input spoofer makes mouse-and-keyboard controls appear to the console as if they came from a genuine controller. Riot Games says this can combine mouse input with controller aim assistance, creating an unfair competitive advantage. In its VALORANT and Vanguard explainer, Riot describes the effect this way: “These devices fool the console into thinking a controller has been plugged in, giving the cheater the benefit of emulated mouse input AND aim assistance.” Riot’s VALORANT/Vanguard explainer says VALORANT console gameplay does not allow mouse and keyboard and does not cross-play console with PC. Those policy details describe VALORANT, not every console game.

How do game publishers respond?
Anti-cheat systems and policies vary by game. Riot says its Vanguard restrictions have used current Windows patches and TPM/Secure Boot in some circumstances to reduce bootkit vectors and improve hardware identification. Riot also says it may delay some bans so cheat developers have less opportunity to test detection changes against their tools. These are Riot’s descriptions of its own approach, not universal rules for anti-cheat software; the company notes that it withholds some detection details. Hardware-ID spoofing should also not be confused with DMA cheating. Riot describes DMA cheating as a separate method involving access to game memory through an external tool; it is not another name for spoofing.

What do reported ban figures show?
The Apex Legends Anti-Cheat Team reported 139,697 account bans across platforms during Season 28, from February 10 to May 5, 2026. Within its reported enforcement categories, the team listed 7,136 HWID spoofer bans and a 4.1% match infection rate, which it called its lowest to date. These are the publisher’s figures for that defined period, not independently verified counts or an estimate of how common spoofers are among all players. Does a spoofer guarantee a ban will be avoided?
No such guarantee is established. The cited sources describe intended or alleged purposes, publisher enforcement practices, and reported bans; they do not establish the current compatibility, reliability, safety, or ban risk of any named spoofer. Anti-cheat detections can change, and a tool’s advertised claim is not evidence that it will work. Spoofing also undermines a game’s rules or competitive integrity, and enforcement approaches differ by title.
