Square Enix’s product comparison lists the number of jobs, but does not name all 18 in the material reviewed. The trial is free to play, but it has in-game feature restrictions.
What does “classes” mean in FFXIV?
FFXIV uses “class” and “job” for related but distinct parts of character progression. A class is a starting discipline; after mastering a class, a character can take up its related job. Square Enix gives examples such as Gladiator to Paladin, Thaumaturge to Black Mage, and Conjurer to White Mage on its A Realm Reborn jobs page.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why do older Free Trial answers give a lower level cap?
The trial’s scope has expanded over time, so older guides can describe an earlier version. Square Enix’s historical notice records Heavensward as a Free Trial addition. Its Patch 7.5 announcement later stated that the trial includes A Realm Reborn and three expansions—Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers—and reaches level 80. The current product comparison reviewed here is marked accurate as of April 2026.
