In Dark Souls (DS1), pyromancy spell damage improves by reinforcing and ascending the Pyromancy Flame—not by leveling Intelligence, Faith, Strength, or Dexterity. Spell-boosting equipment can also increase pyromancy damage, but those are gear effects, not character-stat scaling.
Does pyromancy scale with Intelligence in DS1?
Not in the way the stat-scaling letters on a weapon might suggest. The Dark Souls Wiki’s Pyromancy Flames reference describes the flame as technically having Intelligence scaling, but says it already has maximum possible scaling regardless of the character’s Intelligence. In practical terms, raising Intelligence does not improve ordinary pyromancy spell damage.

Pyromancies also do not require Intelligence or Faith to cast. The Dark Souls Wiki’s Remedy entry states this distinction from sorceries and miracles.
Which stats affect pyromancy?
The flame reference says Pyromancy Flames do not scale with Strength or Dexterity. It specifically includes the physical damage component of Black Flame, so those stats are not a route to improving that spell’s output either.

Faith likewise is not a pyromancy damage-scaling stat. For spell output, focus on the flame’s reinforcement level and applicable spell-boosting gear rather than leveling Intelligence or Faith.
How to increase pyromancy damage
Reinforce and ascend the Pyromancy Flame
Reinforcing the Pyromancy Flame raises its Magic Adjustment, the item value used in spell damage calculations. The Dark Souls Wiki flame reference lists an Ascended Pyromancy Flame as obtainable after reinforcing the standard flame to +15 and speaking with Quelana of Izalith. It gives the ascended flame a Magic Adjustment range of 196–230 depending on reinforcement; those item-reference figures are not a guaranteed damage value for every spell or target.

Damage gains per upgrade vary by spell. The same page gives Fire Tempest as an example: most reinforcement steps add less than 30 damage, while the final +5 step adds more. That example should not be treated as a universal per-level increase.
Use spell-boosting equipment
The flame reference names the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring and Crown of Dusk as equipment effects that boost spells, including pyromancy. These bonuses come from equipped items, not from Intelligence or another character stat. Check the effect of each item and whether it applies to the pyromancy you intend to use.

Where to spend levels and upgrade resources

Why the flame may appear to have Intelligence scaling
The apparent Intelligence notation is easy to misread as a reason to invest levels. The flame reference explains the exception: the Pyromancy Flame is described as technically scaling with Intelligence, yet its scaling is already at the maximum regardless of the character’s Intelligence. That notation therefore does not make Intelligence a useful pyromancy damage stat in DS1.
