Proficiency in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is a tracker for how much you use each fighter. It unlocks character-specific rewards through Zen-Oh’s Orders. It does not, as far as the available guidance shows, raise a character’s combat stats.
What proficiency measures
Each character has a proficiency rank that rises as you use that character. The rank is a usage record that feeds into rewards. Treat it as a progress tracker for your roster, not as a power level that changes how a fighter performs in battle.
The most detailed guide available on the mechanic is Destructoid’s walkthrough, published October 10, 2024 and updated October 11, 2024. It describes proficiency in those terms and does not report any combat-stat effect. Because that guide predates later game updates, confirm the details below against the in-game screens before relying on them.
How proficiency increases
According to that guide, proficiency rises through battle participation, and you do not have to win a match for it to go up. Two modes are named as ways to earn it:
#1 Best Overall
- Engage in heart-pounding, high-speed 3D battles that stay true to the anime and video game series
- This game contains breathtaking visuals and authentic combat moves like beam clashes, rush attacks, and movements too quick for the eyes to see
- Step into an arena that reacts to your every action including planet-razing ultimate attacks
- Watch the environment respond with stunning realism, and leave a trail of destruction in your wake as you battle to your heart’s content
- Episode Battles
- World Tournament matches
The guide also says that in Offline Battles, placing five characters on a team can raise the proficiency ranks of all five, including members who never leave the bench. This is advice reported in the guide, not a result that has been independently reproduced, so treat it as the guide’s claim rather than a guaranteed behavior.
What proficiency rewards
Rewards are found in Zen-Oh’s Orders, which sit under the Challenges & Missions tab. The guide’s example is a Chiaotzu (Silver) title unlocked at proficiency level 1. It also lists Zen-Oh character card reward tiers at levels 1, 4, and 7.
Rank #2
- Brand video game Bandai Namco
- Color: Multicolor
- Dimensions: 16.8 x 13.5 x 1.5 cm
- Reference: S71010027
- If what you want is quality at the best price do not keep looking!
The exact reward at each level depends on the character, so do not expect the same item for every fighter at the same rank. The guide does not list a full reward table for every character.
Proficiency versus stat changes
Proficiency and character stats are separate systems. Bandai Namco’s beginner guide says a character’s stats are affected by customization, by transformation, and by the character’s current state. It also says Ability Items can boost abilities such as speed, strength, and HP.

The table below shows where each system fits.
| System | What it depends on | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Proficiency | How often and how much you use a character in battles | Zen-Oh’s Orders rewards, including character card tiers at levels 1, 4, and 7 |
| Customization | Choices you make for a character | Stats, according to Bandai Namco’s beginner guide |
| Ability Items | Items you equip | Abilities such as speed, strength, and HP, according to Bandai Namco’s beginner guide |
| Transformation and current state | In-battle transformation and condition | Stats, according to Bandai Namco’s beginner guide |
If you want a fighter that hits harder or moves faster, look at customization and Ability Items. If you want unlocks tied to a character, build proficiency through use and check Zen-Oh’s Orders.
Practical steps
- Open the Challenges & Missions tab and select Zen-Oh’s Orders to see which rewards are tied to each character.
- Play Episode Battles or World Tournament matches with the characters you want to rank up. Winning is not required for proficiency to rise, according to the guide.
- For Offline Battles, put five characters on the team if you want the guide’s team-wide increase. Confirm in the game that all five ranks went up.
- Check the rewards at levels 1, 4, and 7 for each character you are leveling.
Limits of the available information
The mechanic details here come from a single guide dated October 2024. No current official proficiency manual was found, and no published statistics on proficiency exist. The reward thresholds at levels 1, 4, and 7 are the values reported in that guide. Because the game has been updated since then, exact menu labels, mode availability, and reward lists may have changed.
