You don’t manage expulsion as a separate school-life mechanic in Persona 5. The early threat is tied to the Kamoshida story arc: let the related Palace deadline pass and the game reaches a failure outcome. Finish the Palace route before the deadline to continue.
What the expulsion threat means
During the Kamoshida arc, the protagonist and Ryuji face a threat of expulsion linked to the Palace deadline. It is a story-driven ultimatum, not an open-ended system in which you can be expelled at any time by accumulating school trouble. StrategyWiki’s Kamoshida arc guide describes the ultimatum as backed by a deadline and a game-over outcome.

What to do before the deadline
- Check the deadline shown for the Palace in the game.
- Complete the Palace route before that deadline. If you allow it to pass, the result is a failure outcome rather than a normal expulsion you can recover from.
In practical terms, treat the threat as part of the Palace objective: make completing that route on time your priority.
How Persona 5 Royal’s other endings differ
Persona 5 Royal adds story content and alternate endings. Major decisions in its additional third-semester story can lead to bad endings, according to RPG Site’s endings guide. Those choice-driven outcomes are distinct from the early Kamoshida expulsion threat; a bad ending is not necessarily an expulsion outcome.

Atlus presents Royal’s protagonist as a second-year student who transferred to Shujin Academy in Tokyo, with a school-life-by-day and Phantom Thief life-by-night structure. That backstory is separate from the Kamoshida deadline scenario. Atlus also says the selected difficulty does not affect story content. See the official Persona 5 Royal overview.

PlayStation describes Royal as an expanded and reworked version of Persona 5, with new characters, story, locations, an added arc, and alternate endings; its US listing identifies PS4 and PS5 availability. The available sources establish the early deadline threat and Royal’s additional choice-based endings, but do not establish that every expulsion-related scene or outcome is identical between the original game and Royal. See PlayStation’s Persona 5 Royal listing for the edition and platform details.
