If you refuse to give Staada the Sheogorath-Shaped Amber, she becomes hostile and you keep the unique item. You can still use it at the Atronach Forge, or give Staada the Sword of Jyggalag instead to receive Staada’s Helmet while keeping the Amber.
What happens when you keep the Amber?
Staada asks for the Amber during her quest. If you tell her you are keeping the artifact, she turns hostile; the quest dialogue records her response as, “Fool! What do you think you’re doing?” The quote is transcribed by the community-maintained UESP quest reference, rather than an official game transcript.

Refusing the exchange lets you retain the Amber, but do not count on receiving Staada’s Helmet through that route. The documented way to get the helmet while keeping the Amber is to give Staada the Sword of Jyggalag instead.

The Amber is found in the Solitude Sewers as part of Skyrim Anniversary Edition’s Saints & Seducers content. Acquiring it leads to a courier’s note that starts Staada’s quest. The item’s reference and a secondary guide document the exchange outcomes; exact mechanics may vary by game version, and no patch-specific test is established here.

What you can craft with the Amber
The Sheogorath-Shaped Amber is unique and can be used at the Atronach Forge for one of three documented outcomes: Staada, a Scroll of Conjure Staada, or a Spell Tome: Conjure Staada. Each recipe consumes the Amber, so you can make only one of those outcomes with the single item.

The Amber’s listed recipes are documented in the UESP item reference. If you want the spell tome, keep the Amber rather than handing it over; you can still obtain Staada’s Helmet by trading the Sword of Jyggalag.

Which option should you choose?
- Keep the Amber: Choose this if you want to retain the unique item or use its Atronach Forge recipes.
- Trade the Sword: Choose this if you want Staada’s Helmet and also want to keep the Amber.
- Trade the Amber: Choose this if the helmet matters more to you than the Amber or its crafting use.
- Refuse the exchange: Choose this only if you are willing to make Staada hostile; the documented dialogue does not show this route earning the helmet.
There is no objectively best choice for every character: the decision depends on whether you value the helmet, the Amber itself, or one of its forge-made results more.
