There is no single best ranged armor for every stage of Calamity. For ranged characters after Moon Lord, the class setups guide recommends Auric Tesla armor. Earlier in Hardmode, the best fit depends on whether you want more damage or more survivability; the official progression guide separates its recommendations into offensive, defensive, and overall choices.

Hardmode: choose between damage and defense
The Hardmode recommendations include Mythril armor as an overall or offensive option. For a more damage-focused mixed setup, the guide lists a Shroomite helmet and breastplate with Mollusk leggings. Reaver armor is the defensive alternative. These are not interchangeable in every situation: weigh the damage focus of the mixed set against the extra survivability offered by a defensive choice, and check that the pieces are available at your current progression point. The armor progression guide frames its recommendations by offensive, defensive, and overall use.

After Moon Lord: Auric Tesla armor
For late-game ranged play after Moon Lord, the class setups guide lists Auric Tesla armor as the class-specific choice. With its ranged hood equipped, the set is listed with +125 defense, +50% ranged damage, +40% ranged critical strike chance, +30% ammo cost reduction, and +10% movement speed. Its listed bonuses also include additional projectiles and effects. The set is made from post-Moon-Lord armor components, Auric Bars, and other materials; consult the item page for the recipe and material details. How to choose between armor options
- Progression: Base the choice on the bosses defeated and materials you can access. A late-game set is not a practical answer for an earlier stage.
- Damage or survival: Favor the offensive or damage-focused configurations when maximizing ranged output matters most; consider the defensive option when staying alive is the priority.
- Ammo efficiency: Auric Tesla’s listed ranged set bonuses include ammo cost reduction, so it supports sustained ranged use as well as damage.
- Full set or mix: The Hardmode damage recommendation combines pieces from different sets, while Auric Tesla is the listed class-specific full set for post-Moon-Lord ranged play.
Check the guide against your Calamity version
The armor progression guide identifies version 2.0.1.004 as the version it was last updated for. That is a guide-version marker, not confirmation that 2.0.1.004 is the latest Calamity release. Because armor recommendations and availability can depend on the installed mod version, check the linked guide and item pages against your own version before committing to a build. The available progression information does not establish a reliable complete pre-Hardmode ranged sequence, so use the current guide for that stage rather than assuming an early-game set from this late- and mid-game comparison.
