There is no proven, universally best party for the Cove. Build around four jobs: reliable healing, blight damage, access to or control over enemy back ranks, and a durable front line. That mix answers the Cove’s main pressures: many enemies have high protection, fish scales make bleed less effective, and dangerous foes can stun your heroes. Fill those roles with the heroes and skills you have available rather than treating one lineup as mandatory. Cove guide · Expeditions Guide
Build for Cove enemies, not a fixed lineup
High PROT makes ordinary direct damage less effective against many Cove enemies, so blight is a useful way to keep dealing damage. Bleed can still have uses, but fish scales make it a weaker plan to rely on by itself. A Plague Doctor is a natural blight candidate; the Cove guide also notes that the Occultist deals increased damage against Eldritch enemies. These are role fits, not proof that either hero belongs in every party. Expeditions Guide · Cove guide
Back-rank reach and control matter because threatening or disrupting dangerous enemies can reduce the harm they cause. The Cove’s enemies commonly use stuns, so stun resistance is useful. Keep the front line able to absorb heavy hits; the Cove guide suggests considering more PROT for front-line heroes. Cove guide
Use a four-role party template
- Healer: Bring dependable healing so the group can recover from heavy hits.
- Blight source: Include a hero who can apply blight to pressure high-PROT enemies.
- Back-rank reach or control: Make sure the party can threaten or disrupt enemies in the rear ranks.
- Durable front line: Use a hero who can take hits while dealing damage or supporting the team.
A Plague Doctor can fill the blight role, while an Occultist is another option to consider for Eldritch damage. One Reddit commenter suggested using an Occultist in place of a Vestal, citing Eldritch damage and the ability to pull back-row enemies. That is an individual player’s opinion, not an authoritative ranking or tested comparison. Cove guide · Community discussion

Compare the parties you can field
When choosing between available lineups, look at what each one can do rather than its hero names alone:
- Damage through protection: Can the party use blight or otherwise handle enemies with high PROT?
- Reach and control: Can it threaten back-row Shamans and interrupt or reduce enemy actions?
- Survival: Does it have dependable healing and a front line that can withstand heavy hits?
- Resistance and flexibility: Can it cope with stuns and still function if a preferred hero or skill is unavailable?
The available guidance provides no numeric thresholds or evidence that one composition wins more often than another. Treat this as a practical checklist, not a statistically proven ranking.

Change target priority as the fight develops
The Cove guide’s targeting advice is conditional: prioritize the threat that matters most to your party’s current state.
- Thrall: Kill it as soon as possible.
- Groupers: Consider finishing them when party health is low.
- Back-row Shamans: Target them when stress is climbing.
Maggots, stingers, and heavily armored enemies can generally wait when they pose less immediate danger. Reassess priorities as health and stress change. Cove guide

Choose provisions for the route
There is no universal exact-quantity shopping list here; the useful provisions depend on the curios and threats you encounter. The Cove guide identifies these situational uses:
- Medicinal Herbs: Useful against debuffs and for curios such as Eerie Coral and Fish Carcass.
- Shovels: Extra shovels can help with chests and oysters.
- Bandages: Address occasional bleeds from Uca Crushers.
- Holy Water, Antivenom, and a Skeleton Key: Have situational uses with named Cove curios or locked chests.
- Dog Treats: A Houndmaster can use them on oysters for a dodge buff.
Use these as options to weigh against your route and expected needs, rather than carrying every item on every expedition. Cove guide
