There is no single best combo in Sifu for every fight. The right choice depends on the opening and the job: close distance, control a group, or punish an enemy after a defense. Sloclap recommends mixing fast and strong attacks, adapting with unlocked skills, and using positioning and crowd control—not relying on one supposedly unbeatable string.
Choose a combo for the situation
Compare a move by what it helps you do, when you can start it, and who you are fighting. The available guidance does not establish measured damage rankings or a universal tier list.

| Approaching an enemy | Snap Kick | A forward-moving attack that can help close distance. | Up, Up, Triangle on PlayStation, as listed by a secondary skill guide. It is an approach option, not a proven strongest attack. TheGamer skill guide. |
| Several enemies nearby | Spin Hook Kick | An area attack that may hit multiple opponents. | Triangle, Triangle, pause, Triangle on PlayStation, as listed by the same secondary guide. TheGamer skill guide. |
| An enemy is open after a defense | Counterattack or throw | A well-timed parry can unbalance an opponent and create an opening; an avoid can help recover balance and strike back. | Respond to the opening rather than forcing a long attack string into an active enemy. Sloclap’s combat overview. |
These examples are not a measured ranking. The sources do not give comparable damage figures, and a move’s usefulness depends on the opponent, timing, unlocked skills, and your controls.
Why defense matters before a combo
Sifu uses a Structure gauge. Breaking an opponent’s Structure enables a takedown; if your own Structure fills, you are briefly vulnerable. Sloclap explains that well-timed parries can unbalance enemies and open counterattack or throw opportunities, while avoiding an attack can help you regain balance and retaliate. That makes a defensive opening a useful starting point: defend against a readable attack, then choose a response that fits the space and the enemy’s state. Sloclap says players can mix strong and fast attacks into combos, against one enemy or by moving between opponents. Skills let you adapt to difficult situations; the developer does not identify one required sequence as best.
Use different tactics against bosses and groups
Against bosses
Watch the boss’s pattern before committing to attacks. Sloclap advises learning the pattern and counterattacking when an opening appears, often at the end of an attack cycle. Bosses resist button mashing, and tactics that work on ordinary enemies may not work on them. Sloclap’s launch tips.

Against groups
Use knockdowns, pushbacks, and throwables to disrupt enemies, and reposition before they surround you. Prioritize armed enemies when deciding whom to handle first. Spin Hook Kick is one possible multi-target option according to the secondary skill guide, but Sloclap’s broader advice emphasizes crowd control and positioning rather than a single combo.

- You are free to pick your fights against the Kami in any order. The game features a dynamic difficulty system where each enemy strength is defined by the player’s chosen path. This means that the very same Kami fought at the very beginning could also be the final boss in a different route. Hope to never leave the one you struggle most to fight last!
- Besides sword attacks, dodges, head stomps and other basic abilities, Rei will learn a completely new skill for each defeated Kami. Those will provide further depth to your combat arsenal, be it a stronger dash, a weapon that can execute enemies, the ability to heal and many more!
- Player choice is the ultimate power. Taking into account the vastly distinct enemies’ patterns and unique skills granted upon each victory, you will be able to decide how to approach every challenge. It won’t be easy either way, but you can always go back and try something different.
- Gurei is a game about fighting strong enemies, but that’s not all. The Kami inhabit a surreal castle located between the human and spirit worlds. After each victory, Rei comes closer to the realm of spirits, starting to encounter peculiar characters from Japanese mythology. These creatures will add novelty and strangeness to your journey, providing commentary, unique animations, side objectives and obscure secrets.
- You will get to know the different Kami quite well. When Rei defeats them, she absorbs their power and their personality. The defeated Kami will be carried around wherever Rei goes, and they’ll surely have stuff to talk about. Sometimes their remarks will be useful information that builds the player’s understanding of the lore and the game mechanics, but sometimes they will be... not so helpful, to put it briefly. Good luck!
Sloclap’s guidance is to practice, adapt your skills, and avoid button mashing. As Community Manager Félix Garczynski put it, “You can mix strong and fast attacks to build combos, on a single enemy or going from one opponent to the other.” PlayStation Blog, November 18, 2021.
