How the four memberships compare
These are Nintendo’s listed U.S. prices, accessed in 2026. Prices vary by country and membership term.

Nintendo also lists standard Individual memberships at $3.99 per month or $7.99 for three months in the U.S.; the prices shown above are annual prices. Nintendo’s plan comparison and membership pricing support page provide current plan details.
What every membership includes
Both standard and Expansion Pack memberships include online multiplayer in supported games, Save Data Cloud backup for supported games, selected NES, Super NES, and Game Boy Nintendo Classics, the Nintendo Music app, and member offers. These benefits are not universal to every game: online play must be supported, and cloud saves are available only for supported titles. Nintendo describes cloud backup as covering most games, not all of them. Check a game’s details if online play or save backup is essential to you.

What Expansion Pack adds
Expansion Pack includes the standard membership benefits and adds access to selected Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Virtual Boy, and SEGA Genesis games. On Nintendo Switch 2, it also includes selected Nintendo GameCube Classics.
It also includes selected downloadable content at no additional cost while the membership is active, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass and Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise, as well as selected Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Packs. The included content is limited to selected titles; it does not mean all DLC is included.

GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2 is available with any Nintendo Switch Online membership, so it is not a reason by itself to choose Expansion Pack. The GameCube Classics library and selected Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Packs are Expansion Pack benefits. Nintendo says its optional GameCube Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 is compatible only with Switch 2; a special controller is not a membership requirement.
Individual or Family: which coverage do you need?
Individual covers one Nintendo Account. Family covers accounts in the purchaser’s Nintendo Account family group, up to eight users total. A Family plan is account-based rather than simply a subscription attached to a console, so each person who needs the service must be covered by the plan.

- Choose standard Individual if one account mainly needs supported online play, cloud saves, the core Classics libraries, Nintendo Music, or member offers.
- Choose standard Family if several accounts in one family group need those standard benefits. At the maximum of eight accounts, Nintendo’s $34.99 annual U.S. price works out to under $5 per account for the year, assuming all eight share it.
- Consider Expansion Pack Individual if one account expects to use its additional game libraries or included selected DLC. At the listed annual U.S. prices, it costs $30 more than standard Individual.
- Consider Expansion Pack Family if several covered accounts will use the added libraries or selected content. At eight accounts, Nintendo describes the cost as about $10 per person per year; that is a rounded calculation assuming the maximum group size.
What the price difference means
The annual U.S. price difference between standard and Expansion Pack is $30 for Individual and $45 for Family, calculated from Nintendo’s listed prices. If you only need the standard benefits, paying more for Expansion Pack is useful only if you expect to use its added libraries, selected DLC, or applicable Switch 2 additions.

Nintendo’s seven-day free trial is for the standard membership, not Expansion Pack. It is unavailable to an account that already has an active Individual or Family membership. Unless you turn off automatic renewal by the end of the trial, it converts to a one-month paid membership at the then-current price. Paid memberships also renew at the end of their initial term at the then-current price unless canceled. Review the renewal settings and price shown in your account before starting a trial or purchase.

You can change from standard to Expansion Pack through Nintendo eShop or Nintendo Account settings. Nintendo applies a prorated adjustment based on the remaining membership time; check the amount displayed in the purchase flow for your account rather than assuming a fixed upgrade price. Nintendo says Family memberships cannot be combined with Individual memberships to extend a membership term.
