It permits offline play and LAN multiplayer, but not online servers. The purchased game provides the broader Minecraft experience; which edition you need depends on your device and who you want to play with.
What does the Minecraft free trial include?
The trial is a limited introduction to Survival mode. Minecraft says players can try activities such as crafting, exploration, and combat. That description does not establish that every mode or feature in the full game is included. For context, Minecraft describes Creative mode as offering limitless resources, flight, and immunity to damage, but its trial FAQ does not say that Creative mode is part of the trial. See Minecraft’s free-trial details and overview of the game.
How long does the trial last?
Minecraft describes both Java and Bedrock free trials as providing approximately 100 minutes of in-game time, or about five in-game days. The duration can vary slightly by device, so treat it as an approximate allowance rather than a guaranteed real-world session length. The official pages reviewed do not state a playtime limit for the purchased game.
Can you play Minecraft multiplayer during the trial?
The trial allows LAN multiplayer, but you cannot join online multiplayer servers. Offline play is also allowed. Those are distinct options: LAN play connects players on a local network, while online servers are not available in the trial. Minecraft’s trial FAQ spells out these limits.

What changes when you buy the full game?
The purchase gives access to the wider game rather than the trial’s short Survival sample. The exact experience and multiplayer options depend on edition, platform, and game version. Minecraft’s game overview describes a broader sandbox that includes Creative mode; the trial FAQ does not list every full-game feature or establish that all of them are available in the trial.
Which edition should you buy?
Start with your device and the people you want to play with. Minecraft sells Java and Bedrock together as a PC bundle. Java is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux; Bedrock is available across Windows, consoles, and mobile devices. The editions use different multiplayer ecosystems: Java and Bedrock players cannot join the same edition servers. Check Minecraft’s Java or Bedrock guide and the current listing for your platform before buying.

For online multiplayer, players need matching editions and versions. On consoles, online multiplayer also requires the relevant platform subscription; Minecraft lists examples including Xbox Game Pass Core, PlayStation Plus, and Nintendo Switch Online. Requirements can depend on platform, so check the current Minecraft multiplayer requirements.
Does a trial world carry over after purchase?
The official pages cited here do not establish whether a world or progress from a free trial transfers to the purchased game. Do not count on continuity unless you confirm the answer for your specific edition and platform.
Is the Realms trial the same as the Minecraft free trial?
No. The base-game free trial is for sampling Minecraft itself. Realms is a separate hosted multiplayer subscription service; Minecraft lists a 30-day trial for eligible users, and its subscription automatically renews unless cancelled. Check the Realms page for eligibility and current terms.
