There is no confirmed maximum age for a Grandma in Cookie Clicker. Grandmas age as the game runs, and the age shown when you hover over one has no effect on gameplay. The game’s creator does not publish a cap or an exact formula, so no specific “oldest” number can be verified.
What the age on a Grandma means
The age people are asking about is the one shown in a Grandma’s hover tooltip. Orteil, the game’s creator, explains on the official Granny names page that hovering over Grandmas in the game may show one of a list of names chosen at random, along with the Grandma’s age, and that Grandmas age along with the game. The same page states that this has no impact on gameplay.
That means the age is a cosmetic detail. Nothing you can buy, upgrade, or unlock depends on it.
What is established and what is not
- Tooltips can show a name and an age. Hovering over a Grandma may display a randomly selected name from the official list and the Grandma’s age.
- Age increases with game time. The official page says Grandmas age along with the game. It does not say how quickly, or by what formula.
- Age has no gameplay effect. The creator’s page says so directly.
- No maximum age is documented. The official page does not give a cap, and the sources reviewed for this article do not establish one for the current version.
For that reason, avoid quoting any specific number as the game’s oldest possible Grandma. Screenshots of very high ages may exist, but they do not show a ceiling set by the game.

Grandma types and Grandmatriarchs are different mechanics
Many searches for “oldest Granny” are really about progression, not tooltip age. Those are separate systems:
- Grandma types. Grandma upgrades change the kind of Grandma you have, and the game wiki describes several types with different appearances.
- The Grandmatriarch stage. Elder Pact leads to the final Grandmatriarch stage of the Grandmapocalypse. This is story and progression, not an age limit.
If you are looking for the most advanced Grandma state, check these progression systems. If you want the age shown in the tooltip, the answer is that it is not capped by any documented rule.

How to check a Grandma’s age yourself
- Open Cookie Clicker in your browser or the Steam, Android, or Classic version you play.
- Build at least one Grandma and wait for the Grandma sprites to appear in the play area.
- Hover over a Grandma in the play area and read the tooltip for a name and age.
- Note that the age will keep rising while the game runs; it is not a fixed value per Grandma.
The official game page lists the live version as 1.0466, with beta, Classic, Android, and Steam versions also available. The age page does not say whether the age display differs between versions or platforms, so if you see a difference, treat it as unverified rather than as a rule.

On the official Granny names page, Orteil writes that hovering over grandmas may show one of these names at random, as well as their age, and that grandmas age along with the game. The page adds that this has no impact on gameplay. Attribute the statement to that official page rather than to any interview or update note.
