The page does list builds for Minecraft 1.21.4 and previews for 1.21.6, plus entries for later Minecraft versions. That is the current state of the official listing, not a promise or a forecast, and no one outside OptiFine can say when a 1.21.5 build will appear.
What the official OptiFine listing shows
The OptiFine Downloads page is the only place that confirms which OptiFine builds exist. Checking it is the fastest way to answer whether a 1.21.5 build has appeared. Here is what the page showed at the time of this check, with dates written as the page lists them (day.month.year):
| Minecraft version | What the page lists | Date shown |
|---|---|---|
| 1.21.4 | OptiFine HD U J3 (build) | 09.02.2025 |
| 1.21.5 | No section, build, or preview listed | Not stated |
| 1.21.6 | OptiFine HD U J6 pre1, pre2, pre3 (previews) | 27.06.2025, 29.06.2025, 30.06.2025 |
The gap sits between two neighbouring versions. The listing also contains later Minecraft versions, so the absence of 1.21.5 should be read as a fact about this one page on this date, not a sign of a broader decision.
What the listing does not explain
The page does not say why 1.21.5 is missing. It does not announce a cancellation, a plan to skip the version, or a plan to support it later. Any statement that OptiFine will never support 1.21.5, or that it is still being worked on, would go beyond what the page says. The page also gives no timetable, so the dates above should not be used to estimate how long a build might take. Each date is simply when that entry was posted.

What Minecraft’s own 1.21.5 notes confirm
Mojang’s Minecraft Java Edition release notes for 1.21.5 include a release candidate post. In it, the first 1.21.5 Release Candidate is described as shipping with a few bug fixes, with the stated plan that, if no new critical issues surfaced, this version would be released as Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.5. Minecraft also published a 1.21.5 Pre-Release 2 note. These posts confirm that the game version went through testing stages. They are not statements from OptiFine, and they do not establish whether OptiFine supports 1.21.5 or when it might.
How to check for a 1.21.5 build yourself
- Open the OptiFine Downloads page on the official OptiFine site.
- Look for a section headed with Minecraft 1.21.5. If there is none, no 1.21.5 build or preview is listed.
- If a 1.21.5 section appears, check whether the entry is marked as a preview (pre) or a full build, and note its date.
- Do not install a build listed for a different Minecraft version, such as 1.21.4 or 1.21.6, into a 1.21.5 game. A neighbouring entry does not mean it works with 1.21.5.
Because listings change, check the page again on the day you plan to install anything. A status that is accurate today may be out of date later.

- If you must play on 1.21.5 with OptiFine, the official page currently offers no build for that version, so there is no official download to use.
- If your goal is OptiFine’s graphics and performance options, the listed builds are for other Minecraft versions. Playing on one of those versions is the only path the official page currently supports.
- Keep an eye on the official OptiFine Downloads page. A new 1.21.5 section, if one is added, will appear there first.
The official page is the only source for OptiFine release information in this article. Third-party sites that claim a 1.21.5 date are not confirmed by it.
