What is Gray Zone Warfare: Spearhead?
Spearhead is the name of Gray Zone Warfare’s Update 0.4. MADFINGER said the update had previously been called Dark Revelations while in development, but its scope expanded and the team renamed it Spearhead.
The update made broad changes to tasks and progression, the game world, equipment, and core systems. The launch changelog lists more than 100 new tasks and contracts, more than 50 updated tasks, and more than 250 tasks in total. It also describes 25 or more new locations, eight new weapons, over 380 weapon parts, and over 150 gear pieces; these are developer-reported figures, not independent measurements. See the official Spearhead launch notes for the full feature list.

Tasks, progression, and exploration
MADFINGER redistributed tasks around Lamang and said tasks were no longer tied to a particular time of day. Most became replayable, with Starter Town tasks excluded. The update also added locations and lore while redesigning the task loop. Those are the developer’s descriptions of the changes, not an independent assessment of how they affect play.
Systems and quality-of-life changes
The launch notes also include changes to AI and loot, the tactical map, vendor stock and the economy, ballistics and health, movement and sound, and the HUD, controls, visuals, lighting, and technical performance. New onboarding content included a tutorial area and Field Manual, alongside player statistics.

As of October 8, 2026, Update 0.4 is a past release. In an announcement dated October 1, MADFINGER named Update 0.5: Rogue Ops as the next major milestone, scheduled for October 22, 2026, with Supporter Preview access beginning October 19. Those dates are the developer’s announced schedule. The 0.4 launch post also said patches and future updates would follow; an April 22 developer post reported three hotfixes and Patch 0.4.1.0 at that point, which should be read as an April status update rather than a current patch inventory.
