Where Are the Best Guild Traders in ESO?

Mournhold, Elden Root, and Wayrest are sensible first stops for ESO guild traders, but the best location depends on your platform, megaserver, and whether you’re buying or selling.

For a first stop in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), try the guild traders in Mournhold, Elden Root, or Wayrest. Vivec City, Rawl’kha, Belkarth, and Alinor are also worth checking. These are commonly recommended hubs, not a verified best-to-worst ranking: the right choice depends on whether you’re buying or selling, your platform and megaserver, and how much you value convenience versus competition.

How guild traders work in ESO

ESO does not have one central auction house. A guild manages its own store, and when it hires a guild trader kiosk, players can browse that guild’s listings at the kiosk. Bethesda describes traders as public outlets for guild stores; its note about Patch 1.3.3 is historical context for the system, not a current patch announcement. Bethesda Support and the official ESO update history describe the system and its changes.

What makes a location a good choice?

Foot traffic and visibility

A busy city can put listings in front of more potential buyers and offer a broader range of goods. That is a useful rule of thumb in third-party trading guides, not a published, comparable count of visitors or sales by location. Tamriel Trade Secrets’ location guide and ESO-Hub’s guild trader guide discuss location and visibility.

Convenience and access

Consider how easily you can reach a trader from a wayshrine, crafting stations, and other services you use. Zone access matters too: a convenient city is less useful if you cannot readily travel there. Tamriel Trade Secrets also points to the layout and nearby services when weighing locations.

Competition, goods, and guild rules

More traffic can mean more exposure, but popular stalls may also place similar listings beside yours. A quieter or more specialized market could suit a particular item, but it does not guarantee a lower price or a sale. Guild dues, sales minimums, and listing rules vary by guild; ask its officers or check its recruitment information rather than assuming a location has a standard fee. Third-party guides describe premium kiosks as potentially more expensive and dues as sometimes higher for highly ranked locations, but those are not official price guarantees. The location guide’s advice is to match a zone to your wares and trading goals, rather than leaving a guild solely because it lacks a top-ranked kiosk.

Platform and megaserver

Trader recommendations do not necessarily transfer between PC and console or between megaservers. Tamriel Trade Secrets says its tier list is based on PC NA data and notes differences in relative performance between PC NA and PC EU, including for Vivec City and Belkarth. Community recommendations also distinguish platform and server. Treat any ranking as specific to the player population and time it describes, not as a universal rule.

Recommended cities to check

The locations below recur in specialist guidance and player recommendations. Their order is not a measured ranking, and their relative usefulness can vary by platform, megaserver, and what you want to do.

Location Why it is worth checking What to keep in mind
Mournhold, Deshaan A frequently recommended hub with a convenient cluster of traders. High-traffic locations can bring more competition; check each guild’s current dues and rules.
Elden Root, Grahtwood An Alliance capital recommended for shopping and selling, and described as a premium location in current third-party guild guidance. Its exact standing depends on platform, server, and what you value.
Wayrest, Stormhaven An Alliance capital that regularly appears in hub recommendations. No current cross-platform sales ranking establishes how it compares with other cities.
Vivec City, Vvardenfell Often recommended, with players citing its crafting convenience. Do not assume PC recommendations apply to console or another megaserver.
Rawl’kha, Reaper’s March Cited as a convenient, active location, particularly in some PC NA reports. Its relative rank varies by platform and server.
Belkarth, Craglorn Appears in recommendations; Craglorn is also included in broad selling guidance. Favorable historical reports, especially for PC EU, are not current measurements.
Alinor, Summerset Included in secondary-tier and player recommendations, often for its convenient layout. Zone access and server traffic can affect whether it is a practical choice.

If you’re shopping for an item

  1. Start at several hubs. Check traders in Mournhold, Elden Root, Wayrest, Vivec City, or Rawl’kha rather than relying on the first stall you visit.
  2. Compare listings between traders. Prices and stock differ from guild to guild; a busy city does not guarantee the best price or an item in stock.
  3. Check smaller cities when the item is scarce or unusual. Players report occasionally finding rarer goods in less-visited places, but this is anecdotal and does not establish that smaller markets are cheaper or better stocked.
  4. Use a price lookup if you play on PC. ESO-Hub offers price lookup for PC-EU and PC-NA. Check its current coverage for your platform before relying on it; a PC tool will not necessarily help console shoppers. ESO-Hub trading tools

If you’re choosing a guild to sell through

  1. Ask where the guild’s current trader is. A guild’s location may change, so confirm the present kiosk rather than relying on an old listing or ranking.
  2. Compare its requirements. Ask about dues, sales minimums, listing rules, and what happens if you miss a requirement; these terms are set by the guild.
  3. Match the market to your stock. A high-visibility location may help buyers find your items, while a less crowded or specialized market may fit some wares better. Neither guarantees sales.
  4. Choose for your goals, not a universal tier list. A specialist trading guide advises weighing what you sell and how seriously you trade instead of leaving a guild only because its kiosk is not considered top-ranked.

Why there is no definitive best-trader ranking

The available guidance and community reports do not establish a current, independently measured comparison of trader traffic or sales volume across all platforms and megaservers. In particular, an Xbox NA player asking whether the familiar hubs are “STILL” best illustrates why a location list should be tied to a server and date, rather than presented as a timeless answer. ESO forum discussion Recommendations are useful for choosing where to look first, but they cannot prove which city sells the most or has the lowest prices today.
