The Root Cellar is at the western end of the Poppy Field. Follow the field’s northern edge until you are level with the barn to the south, then head southwest through the fields west of the barn. Look for a small square opening with a ladder; the Religious Icon is on a shelf inside.
How to reach the Root Cellar
- Orient yourself with the PDA. Open the map and mission log to check your position, nearby locations and active quest markers. GSC Game World’s Beginner’s Guide & FAQs explains these navigation tools.
- Find the barn and the field’s northern edge. At the Poppy Field, follow its northern boundary until you are level with the barn to the south.
- Head southwest between the fields west of the barn. Search for a small, square ground opening with a ladder.
- Climb down and take the icon. The Religious Icon is on a shelf in the cellar.
The written walkthroughs identify the route by landmarks rather than a grid coordinate, so use the barn and field edges instead of relying on an unverified map pin. Starting The Poppy Field mission
The cellar is part of The Poppy Field side mission. Mitay, who is in Hamster’s shop in Zalissya, asks you to retrieve a religious icon last seen in the cellar. Pomor is in a house with a white door on the field’s eastern edge. He can offer directions for 2,000 coupons or after you complete a task involving equipment from bodies around the field, according to Gamer Guides.
Getting through the Poppy Field
Walkthroughs report that the field makes the player drowsy and that falling asleep moves the player to another place in the field. Gamer Guides recommends traveling unencumbered, sprinting and bringing energy drinks. These are walkthrough-reported effects and tips, not guidance from GSC Game World’s official support pages.

After retrieving the icon, you can return it to Mitay or give it to Pomor. Gamer Guides associates Pomor with the Unknown Stalker’s AR416 and Mitay with 1,000 coupons. Siliconera also describes the choice but gives the Mitay reward as 1,500 coupons. The coupon amount therefore is not consistent across these guides; check the current in-game dialogue and version-specific behavior before deciding.
