Pokémon FireRed has five fixed Moon Stones. Two are in Mt. Moon, one is in the Rocket Hideout beneath Celadon’s Game Corner, one is hidden in Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island, and the fifth is a reward from Lostelle’s father on Two Island after you rescue her. Two of the five are hidden rather than sitting in plain view, and the Two Island stone is story-driven, so it cannot be collected early.

All five Moon Stone locations at a glance

Location Floor or area How to get it When in the game
Mt. Moon 1F, northwest area Visible item pickup Early
Mt. Moon B2F, rock near the fossil area Hidden pickup (check the rock) Early
Rocket Hideout (Celadon City) B2F, northwest part of the spinning-tile maze Visible item on the ground Mid-game
Pokémon Mansion (Cinnabar Island) 1F, rocky section west of the northwest pillar Hidden pickup (search the northern small rock) Mid-game
Two Island Lostelle’s father, after her rescue NPC reward Postgame (Sevii Islands)

Five is the total across the main story and the Sevii Islands content. Some lists leave out the hidden Pokémon Mansion stone or the Two Island reward, so check both if you want every stone.

Mt. Moon: two stones

Mt. Moon is the first place you can collect Moon Stones, and it holds two of them.

Mt. Moon 1F: the visible stone

Head to the northwest area of the first floor. The stone is a standard, visible item pickup, so it is the easiest of the five to find.

Pokemon: FireRed Version (Renewed)
  • This renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only. It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.

Mt. Moon B2F: the hidden stone

The second stone is on the basement level near the fossil area. Guides describe it as being on the eastern part of the ledge near the fossils, or southeast of the fossil stairway. It is not an item ball, so walk up to the rock and interact with it directly. If you do not see an item message, move to the other rocks nearby and try again.

Rocket Hideout, Celadon City

The Rocket Hideout is reached through the secret stairway behind the poster in the Celadon City Game Corner. On the B2F spinning-tile maze, head to the northwest portion of the floor. The Moon Stone is lying on the ground there and is a visible pickup.

  • Bring the Pokemon you capture in Fire Red to the worlds of Leaf Green, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, or Pokemon Colosseum for more challenge

Do not look for it in Celadon Department Store. The FireRed and LeafGreen item references list the elemental stones there, but not a Moon Stone.

Pokémon Mansion, Cinnabar Island

The Pokémon Mansion stone is hidden on the first floor. Go to the rocky section west of the northwestern pillar and search the northern small rock. As with the Mt. Moon B2F stone, this is a rock to interact with, not an item ball.

Two Island: the story reward

The Two Island stone is not a floor pickup. After you rescue Lostelle, speak to her father, and he gives you a Moon Stone. Because it depends on the rescue event, it belongs to the Sevii Islands progression and is not available during the early Mt. Moon section. Do not expect to find it while exploring the mainland routes or the earlier caves.

Scope of this guide

This guide covers Pokémon FireRed Version. The placements match the FireRed and LeafGreen Generation III item locations in the guides cited below, but original Red, Blue, and Yellow, later generations, and ROM hacks can place items differently. The specific sources used here are Game8’s FireRed and LeafGreen Moon Stone guide, the Altissimo1 FireRed and LeafGreen evolutionary item location listing, and RotomLabs’ Moon Stone guide, which cross-checks the Two Island reward.
