For a new character on WoW’s current guided route, keep following the Dragonflight story campaign. If you’re an existing or returning player who wants an older expansion, choose an available Chromie Time timeline and continue its quests. Both routes can take you through level 60; Blizzard’s published guidance does not establish which is faster for levels 58–60.
Which route should you use from 58 to 60?
| Character and preference | Route | What Blizzard’s guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|
| New character following the guided path | Continue the Dragonflight story campaign | Blizzard’s current starter guide says the path after Exile’s Reach continues through Dragonflight to level 70. Blizzard’s starter guide |
| Existing or returning player who wants an older expansion | Select an available expansion timeline through Chromie Time, then continue its quests | Blizzard describes Chromie Time as an option for existing players. Its July 2023 update set the mode’s maximum level at 61; check current in-game availability and rules. Blizzard’s September 2025 update and July 2023 update notes |
Choose based on the character’s current path and whether you want to continue the current campaign or play an older expansion. The cited Blizzard sources explain these options but do not compare experience rates or completion times for this two-level stretch.
What 58–60 means in current WoW progression
Level 60 is an intermediate milestone, not the current level cap. Blizzard’s February 2026 starter guide describes Dragonflight progression through level 70, followed by an accelerated War Within story experience from 70 to 80. Blizzard announced that Midnight raises the level cap to 90. Starter guide; Midnight announcement
Is one route faster?
There is no supported fastest-route recommendation for levels 58–60 in the official sources cited here. They describe progression options and level endpoints, not a head-to-head speed comparison. Treat claims naming a fastest zone, quest order, or number of hours as unverified unless they come with relevant, current comparative evidence.

What to check before choosing Chromie Time
Blizzard’s September 2025 update says existing players could bypass Exile’s Reach and use Chromie Time to choose an expansion. The detailed maximum-level and timeline-rule information comes from a July 2023 update, so the character’s current access and available options should be confirmed in-game rather than assumed from older mechanics notes. On the current guided progression path, the next stated endpoint is level 70 through Dragonflight. Blizzard’s starter guide then describes an accelerated War Within story experience from 70 to 80; Midnight is the next expansion chapter, with a level cap of 90. These are progression endpoints, not a claim that every character must follow the same route. Blizzard’s starter guide; Midnight announcement
