Darth Vader appeared in Fortnite as a recruitable Battle Royale boss during the Chapter 6 Season 3 GALACTIC BATTLE event in May 2025. Once the squad recruited him, the whole team could take turns talking to him through an on-screen Darth Vader button. The steps below describe that documented 2025 version. We could not confirm that he is in the game in October 2026, so check the live Battle Royale map before following any of them.
Is Darth Vader in Fortnite right now?
Not as far as we can confirm. Epic Games’ season overview set the final showdown of Chapter 6 Season 3 for June 7, 2025, and the Vader locations and conversation feature described here belong to that period. Treat every direction in this guide as historical until you see him in a current match.
To check quickly, start a Battle Royale match and look for the Imperial Shuttle described below. If it never appears, or if the boss fight has been replaced by another encounter, Vader is not part of the current season.
Where Vader appeared in the 2025 event
A Gfinity guide dated May 16, 2025 listed three possible landing zones for the Imperial Shuttle. Vader spawned at whichever one the shuttle landed in, so the shuttle is the clue to watch for before you drop.

That guide described him as a tough boss with substantial health, backed by Stormtrooper guards. It warned that his lightsaber throw could hit hard and recommended keeping your distance. This is historical encounter advice from an older guide, not a verified tactic for the current game.

How the 2025 recruit-and-talk feature worked
Epic announced on May 16, 2025 that Darth Vader had returned as a Battle Royale boss, replacing Darth Vader Samurai. The announcement said recruiting him was the key step for the conversation feature. Epic’s wording was: “Be the first to recruit him and your whole team will be able to take turns talking to the Dark Lord.”
- Find the Imperial Shuttle before you land. Its landing zone determines where Vader is.
- Land at that zone and prepare for a boss fight with guards nearby. Older guidance warned about his high health, Stormtroopers, and lightsaber throw.
- Defeat Vader and recruit him. The guide says defeating him yielded his unique lightsaber and Force powers.
- Once he is recruited, the first player to recruit him can let the whole team take turns speaking to him.
- To talk, press the special Darth Vader button that appears on screen. Epic’s announcement said: “Just remember to press the special Darth Vader button that’ll pop up to talk to him.”
Epic described the conversation feature as conversational AI. Its feature FAQ named Google Gemini 2.0 Flash and ElevenLabs Flash v2.5 as the underlying technologies. These are details from the 2025 announcement and say nothing about whether the feature still runs.

Do you need a headset?
The 2025 feature uses voice, so a headset with a microphone makes it easier to take your turn. Epic did not say that a particular headset is required, and the announcement describes an on-screen button rather than a voice command. Treat a headset as optional equipment, not a prerequisite. It is also not established whether later versions of the feature use the same control.
A note on the James Earl Jones tribute
Epic’s announcement also included a statement from the family of James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader: “James Earl felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars, and he always wanted fans of all ages to continue to experience it.” Epic presented the Vader return as a tribute to that voice.
