The pilot is reported at Griffin’s Reach Tradepost early in the story, inside the main building near the merchant and contract board. Guides published in June 2025 tie the encounter to the main quest “A Touch of Civilisation” and the side quest “A Wider World.”
How to unlock the pilot service
- Progress to Griffin’s Reach Tradepost. Keep playing the early story until you reach the tradepost. Method’s guide associates this arrival with the main quest “A Touch of Civilisation.”
- Take on “A Wider World.” This side quest is the one guides link to the pilot. Accept it and keep it active while you are at the tradepost.
- Find the ornithopter pilot in the main building. Look near the merchant and the contract board. GameSpot places the pilot in a corner opposite the board, while Method and PC Gamer describe a tucked-away corner close to those same landmarks. Your in-game positioning may differ slightly, so check both the board and the merchant if the pilot is not where you expect.
- Speak to the pilot. Guides describe a taxi-style menu that lists destinations you can travel to, which is the point where fast travel becomes available.
How the pilot network works
Fast travel through the pilot is an NPC interaction, not a map-screen command. You choose a destination from the pilot’s list, and the list depends on where you have already been. Guides list three kinds of destination:
- Hagga Basin locations you have already visited. A place you have never reached will not appear. If a location is missing, visit it on foot first, then return to the pilot.
- Arrakeen. Named in the guides as a faction hub.
- Harko Village. Also named as a hub.
Because the list only includes visited places, the service is most useful when you visit tradeposts and other relevant sites as you explore. Travelling on foot to each new site first is the trade-off.
Reported fares
Fares are the most likely detail to have changed. The figures below come from Method’s 2025 guide and should be checked in-game before you quote them.

| Trip type | Reported fare | Source and date | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tradepost to tradepost, one way | 700 Solari | Method, June 2025 | Guide-reported historical price; not confirmed as current. |
| Trip to a hub city | 700 to 2,500 Solari | Method, June 2025 | The hub fare includes a return trip. Exact amount depends on the route. |
An official Chapter 3 patch note excerpt says pilots accept Solari from the player’s inventory and from the bank. It does not state current prices, so the amounts above should be treated as a guide’s figures rather than official values.
Pilot service or your own ornithopter
Fast travel is not the only way to cover ground. Guides say you can travel outside the pilot network with your own ornithopter. The official publisher describes ornithopters as craftable vehicles.

| Best for | Moving between settlements and tradeposts you have already reached | Exploring beyond the places the pilot serves |
Troubleshooting a missing destination
- The destination is not listed. Confirm that you have physically reached the location in the Hagga Basin. Visited places are what the pilot list shows.
- The pilot does not offer any travel. Check that “A Wider World” is active or completed, since guides link the pilot to that quest.
- You cannot find the pilot. Search the main building around the merchant and the contract board, then check the corner areas described above.
- The fare is different from the figures above. This is expected if the game has been patched since June 2025. Use the price shown in the pilot’s menu.
How current this route is
The detailed route comes from guides published in June 2025. The official sources available for this article confirm the game and the Solari payment rule, but they do not confirm whether later updates changed the quest path, the pilot’s location, the destination rules, or prices. No platform-specific difference in the unlock has been established, so the steps above apply to the game as a whole.
