That test asks for three Ill-Gotten Wealth pieces and 200 Adventurer Slips, and the choice you make with the stolen jewelry decides whether you stay on the Well of Heaven path or drift toward Nine Mortal Ways. A third-party route guide, checked on 2026-07-13, lays out the steps below. It is not official game documentation, so if your in-game quest text or requirement screen differs, follow the live game.
Before you start
- Level 10. According to the route guide, reaching level 10 unlocks Sect clues. Without them, the Well of Heaven entry point does not appear.
- Active tracking. Track Well of Heaven from the clue list before you travel, so the destination marker points to Harvestfall Village.
- A decision about the fake Elder. Joining Well of Heaven first may close the original fake-Elder Nine Mortal Ways branch and can block Art of Resistance from that branch. If you want that path, the guide advises completing Nine Mortal Ways first.
Step-by-step route through Harvestfall Village
- Find San Qian at the village restaurant. Go to the Harvestfall Village restaurant area. If he is not present in Online Mode, the guide recommends switching to Solo Mode. To get his information, pay 200 coins.
- Recognise the fake Elder. A recruiter who asks you to hand over a large pile of jewelry is, in the guide’s account, a Nine Mortal Ways member in disguise. You can keep following the clue to Zhang Yihao from here, but the stolen jewelry must stay with you if Well of Heaven is the goal.
- Go to Zhang Yihao and choose the Well of Heaven test. Tell him you want to join Well of Heaven and take his test. The test is the entry gate for this route.
- Collect both entry totals. You need three Ill-Gotten Wealth pieces and 200 Adventurer Slips. The guide treats these as two separate requirements, so one does not count toward the other (see the sections below).
- Return to Zhang Yihao. Once both totals are complete, hand over the wealth pieces. The guide says Thundercry Blade unlocks on joining.
Why the fake Elder choice matters
The standard route and the Nine Mortal Ways branch both start from the same stolen-jewelry situation in Harvestfall Village. Returning the jewelry to the fake Elder points the shared quest toward Nine Mortal Ways. Keeping it and continuing to Zhang Yihao keeps you on the Well of Heaven route. Because joining one faction can close the other branch, decide which faction you want before you hand anything over.

If you have not yet chosen a faction branch and prefer not to spend Echo Jades, the standard clue route is the path the guide presents first. If you already have an active invitation, the invitation route avoids the co-op grind.
Getting Ill-Gotten Wealth
The route guide lists four possible methods. Each one depends on the target being available in your current quest state, so check the game’s interaction prompts before you commit time to any of them.
Gift of Gab against the fake Elder and San Qian
The guide describes Gift of Gab challenges against the fake Elder and San Qian. It notes that the fake Elder allows two challenge attempts per day.
Celestial Seize from outside line of sight
The guide recommends using Celestial Seize from a position outside the target’s line of sight.

Buying wine from Hao Jiu in Blissful Retreat
A vendor, Hao Jiu in Blissful Retreat, sells wine. Drinking it may yield Black Market Goods that contain Ill-Gotten Wealth. The guide warns that repeated drinking can add health debuffs, so limit the number of bottles you consume.
Fulu Shou at Jiangjun Shrine
The guide records Fulu Shou at Jiangjun Shrine as a possible target on the original route. It recommends Wind Sense, because whether he can be interacted with can depend on quest state.

The guide describes co-op leisure activities as the way to earn Adventurer Slips. Named examples are Madiao, Pitch Pot, and wrestling. Obtaining the wealth pieces does not count toward the slip total, so plan for both goals separately.
Direct invitation through Tang Bao
The guide also describes a direct invitation route. In Blissful Retreat, speak to Tang Bao and buy ten Morale Chant Inner Way pages for 5,000 Echo Jades total. Accept the invitation before it expires. The guide does not give a stable duration for the timer, so check the in-game quest log as soon as the invitation appears and do not wait to act on it.

Recovering after Nine Mortal Ways
If you have already joined Nine Mortal Ways, the guide describes a recovery route. Leave that sect, return to Zhang Yihao, and complete the victim-help recovery route. The guide names three victims and a tracking step within that route. Once it is complete, you must meet the same three-piece and 200-slip requirements as the standard route.
Troubleshooting
- San Qian is missing from the restaurant. Switch to Solo Mode if you are in Online Mode, track the clue again, and reload the Harvestfall Village restaurant area.
- Zhang Yihao repeats the same dialogue. Check your active faction membership first. A current membership in another sect can block the Well of Heaven entry. Then confirm you have three Ill-Gotten Wealth pieces and 200 Adventurer Slips in your inventory and progress. Requirement screens are the authoritative check.
What joining changes
An unofficial sect reference describes Well of Heaven’s rules as including not harming fellow disciples and keeping weekly earnings reasonable. A 2026 beginner guide, updated 2026-07-08, presents sects as optional organisations and notes that you can remain sectless. It also says Skill Theft can obtain a sect’s private Martial Art without membership. That does not replace joining if your goal is faction membership.
