In Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, equipment is restricted by character, while runes can shape a hero’s spells, abilities, attributes, and resistances. Keep your weapons and useful runes current as you advance, and adjust your lineup when a character’s strengths better suit the next challenge.
Who is worth investing in?
Start with the characters you enjoy and expect to field. The official Eiyuden Chronicle site describes a cast of over 100 unique characters, each with distinct skills and stories; that breadth supports experimenting with different party combinations, not a single mandatory roster.
Build for the party you need: consider which roles are already covered, what a character contributes, and whether you have suitable equipment and runes for them. A tier list can offer ideas, but it reflects its author’s judgments and assumptions. For example, GameSkinny’s tier list calls 16 characters very good; that is not an official ranking or proof that those characters are best at every point in the game.
How to choose gear and runes
Evaluate each character’s equipment and build together. Equipment can raise attributes, but characters have restrictions on what they can wear. Runes broaden the choices: depending on the rune, they can grant spells, abilities, stat boosts, or resistances. The character’s rune-lens and level determine rune capacity, so a build must fit what that hero can actually equip.

- Confront foes in dramatic, one-on-one Duels that are woven seamlessly into the story.
- Customize party members with rune-lenses. The runes you place in the lenses will confer magic, personal abilities, stat boots, auto-skills, and other useful effects.
- Compatibility: Check that the character can use the equipment or rune you want to assign.
- Party role: Choose attribute increases and rune effects that support the job you want the character to do and address gaps in the party.
- Capacity: Account for the character’s rune-lens and level before planning around a particular set of rune effects.
- Progress: Revisit weapons and runes as the story advances and better options become available.
Town blacksmiths upgrade weapons, but upgrade limits vary by location, according to an early-game guide. Check the smith in the town you have reached rather than assuming every blacksmith offers the same upgrade ceiling.
How to keep a changing party effective
When you want to try a different character, make the switch with progression in mind. A hero who has fallen behind can catch up as you reach later maps, so you do not have to treat early investment as a permanent commitment. The useful threshold is practical: bring a prepared party into newer areas, then reassess levels and equipment as you progress.

Later on, the leveling guide identifies the Hero’s Trial Ground as an option after you construct the mysterious room. It is a later-game alternative, not a reason to delay story progress while waiting for a supposedly perfect leveling route; the guide does not establish an exact experience rate or an optimal route.

A definitive roster would need to account for story stage, equipment access, rune availability, and the player’s preferred party. The available character-growth information does not support a complete comparison across the roster, and the tier-list article is an editorial opinion rather than an official ranking. Use rankings as prompts for experimentation, not as a substitute for checking how a character fits your current party.
