Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteChoose the doll with the violet hollyhock bloom during the Return to Crookback Bog quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That doll lifts Anna’s curse. It does not guarantee she survives every outcome of the wider storyline, and the earlier Whispering Hillock decision still shapes what happens to her and the Baron’s family.
Why the violet hollyhock doll is the correct choice
The clue is the flower. During the quest, the Bloody Baron states that violet hollyhock was Anna’s favorite flower. That detail identifies the correct doll, and it is the single fact you need to make the choice. Community walkthroughs agree on this point, including the Witcher.tools quest guide, which records the line as the Baron’s remark about Anna’s favorite flower.
What the other dolls do
Each of the other dolls fails to lift the curse. The consequence is more severe than a wrong pick: if you select any doll other than the violet hollyhock bloom, Anna dies while still cursed.
| Doll selected | Lifts Anna’s curse? | Result for Anna |
|---|---|---|
| Doll with the violet hollyhock bloom | Yes | Curse broken; she is restored to human form |
| Any other doll | No | She dies while still cursed |
The restoration applies only when the doll choice happens while Anna is still cursed. Walkthroughs describe this as the timing condition, so make the choice in the Return to Crookback Bog scene itself rather than after the curse has already been resolved by other means.

Lifting the curse is not the same as saving Anna
The phrase “save Anna” covers more than the doll. The doll decision addresses the curse, which is its direct effect. Her larger fate depends on what happened earlier in the story, so a correct doll does not reverse every consequence of prior choices.
How the earlier Whispering Hillock choice affects the outcome

The Whispering Hillock branch involves a spirit. Whether that spirit is freed or killed changes the later quest outcome, according to guides that cover the branch. This is why the doll is not a universal fix: it resolves the curse at the point you reach it, but the earlier decision determines the broader consequences around Anna and the Baron’s family.
The Witcher.tools guide and other walkthroughs describe this as the more consequential decision. They also describe the doll choice as the step that breaks the curse, so treat the two decisions as separate parts of the same storyline.

Source and confidence
This outcome is consistently described across community walkthroughs rather than in an official CD Projekt Red statement. The flower clue, the curse-lifting effect of the violet hollyhock doll, and the fatal result of the other dolls are the points that multiple guides agree on. The broader outcome from the Whispering Hillock choice is described in guides, but the exact sequence of later events can vary with the choices you have made, so check your own save against a walkthrough if you need the full branch.
Quick reference for the Return to Crookback Bog choice
- Pick the doll with the violet hollyhock bloom; the Baron’s line about Anna’s favorite flower identifies it.
- Make the choice while Anna is still cursed, because that is when the doll breaks the curse.
- Any other doll leads to Anna dying while cursed.
- A correct doll lifts the curse but does not guarantee Anna’s survival across the whole storyline.
- The Whispering Hillock decision, where the spirit is freed or killed, affects the later outcome.
Use this guide to choose the right doll and understand what that choice does and does not change.
