LeBlanc, the Deceiver, is a pale sorceress who serves as matron of the Black Rose, a secretive order that schemes through powerful people in and beyond Noxus. Riot Games’ official lore ties her to Mordekaiser, the Immortal Bastion, Boram Darkwill and Jericho Swain, and deliberately leaves her true identity unresolved. Arcane season two brings the Black Rose into Mel Medarda’s story, but the production coverage available on Netflix Tudum does not name the sorceress Mel encounters as LeBlanc.
Who LeBlanc is in League of Legends
LeBlanc is one of League’s most unsettling champions, and her lore is built around that unsettling quality. Riot’s official Universe of League of Legends biography presents her as a figure whose power to deceive is also a problem of identity. She can appear as many people at once, and the biography allows that she may herself be one of many reflections rather than a single continuous woman.
The biography describes her in these words:
“Matron of the Black Rose, LeBlanc’s identity is as intangible as the whispers that describe her, as ephemeral as the illusions that give her shape.”
That sentence is Riot Games’ wording from its Universe of League of Legends biography, not a quote from a named writer or character.

The Black Rose
The Black Rose is the order LeBlanc leads in League lore. Riot’s biography traces it to remnants of an order older than Noxus. Its defining trait is patience: it works through the powerful rather than openly, and its reach extends beyond Noxus as well as within it. Understanding the Black Rose is the key to understanding LeBlanc, because most of her history is told through the order’s schemes.
Her history with Mordekaiser
According to the biography, LeBlanc’s earliest documented conflicts involve Mordekaiser, the Iron Revenant. The sorceress aided barbarian tribes against him and worked to neutralize the Immortal Bastion, the source of his power. The biography also says that LeBlanc later served as an adviser to foreign dignitaries and appeared in many nations at once, which fits its broader theme of a figure who is never in one place.

Darkwill, Swain and the Noxian succession
The biography’s later political narrative connects LeBlanc to Boram Darkwill’s rise and rule in Noxus. In the account, she manipulated Jericho Swain into exposing the Black Rose’s involvement. She allowed herself to be executed along with conspirators, or so it seemed, and later helped poison Darkwill’s mind while promising to extend his life. Swain eventually removed Darkwill and became Grand General, creating a new adversary that LeBlanc could not easily corrupt.
These events belong to Riot’s League biography. They are not shown in Arcane.

What Arcane season two shows
Arcane season two brings the Black Rose into Mel Medarda’s story. Netflix Tudum’s production feature, published November 25, 2024, describes Mel’s encounter with a Black Rose sorceress in episode 8 of season two. The feature says Mel later wears a new look associated with her discovered mage magic. It also describes the Black Rose’s mental prison as an illusion that immobilizes Mel mentally rather than physically, and it identifies Minnie Driver as the performer who plays the sorceress.
The same feature does not name that character as LeBlanc. That leaves a clear gap between two statements that are both accurate: League lore names LeBlanc as the Black Rose’s matron, and Arcane’s Black Rose sorceress is identified in the show’s production coverage only by the Black Rose connection and her performer. Readers should treat any claim that the two are the same character as an inference rather than a confirmed fact, unless a later official statement from Riot Games or Netflix settles it.

Her appearance in Teamfight Tactics
Riot’s Teamfight Tactics Into the Arcane overview includes a separate LeBlanc. She is listed as a five-cost Black Rose Sorcerer, and the overview describes her as the woman who led Sion’s resurrection in that set. This is set-specific game content. It is a useful clue about how Riot is presenting the Black Rose in TFT, but it does not confirm who the sorceress in Arcane is.

How to read the LeBlanc connection
Use this checklist when you see LeBlanc and the Black Rose mentioned together:
- If the claim is about LeBlanc’s history, leadership of the Black Rose or her manipulation of Darkwill and Swain, it comes from Riot’s League biography.
- If the claim is about Mel’s encounter with a Black Rose sorceress, it comes from Netflix Tudum’s November 25, 2024 production feature, which does not name LeBlanc.
- If the claim is about a five-cost LeBlanc in Teamfight Tactics, it comes from the Into the Arcane set overview and applies only to that set.
- If the claim says the Arcane sorceress is LeBlanc, it goes beyond what these sources establish.
The sources covered here date from 2022 to 2024, so newer patches, set updates or official statements may have changed some details.
