Two God of War games were released for the PSP: God of War: Chains of Olympus, originally released in 2008, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta, originally released in 2010. Neither is a PSP-exclusive port of a console entry. Each was built for the handheld as a standalone game.
The two God of War games released for PSP
God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008)
Chains of Olympus was originally released for the PSP in 2008. PlayStation’s official God of War series page lists it against the PSP platform with its original release year, which is the clearest current confirmation of its platform history. PlayStation, “Discover God of War”
God of War: Ghost of Sparta (2010)
Ghost of Sparta was originally released for the PSP in 2010. Sony announced it for both the PSP and the PSPgo, the smaller handheld model, in May 2010. PlayStation.Blog, “God of War: Ghost of Sparta Announced for PSP!”, 4 May 2010 The same announcement confirmed a UMD edition, the disc format the PSP used for physical games.
How these games were packaged
Sony’s August 2010 box art reveal described a Ghost of Sparta PSP-3000 bundle. It included Ghost of Sparta on UMD and a digital voucher for Chains of Olympus. PlayStation.Blog, “God of War: Ghost of Sparta Box Art Revealed”, 30 August 2010 That bundle shows how the games were sold at launch. It does not show what is sold today.

What you need to play them
A physical copy requires a PSP with a working UMD drive. The bundle above used the PSP-3000, so that model is a documented match for a UMD release. Earlier PSP models share the same disc format, but the sources here do not test each model, so confirm compatibility with the specific handheld before buying.
- Physical UMD: Search for a UMD copy of Chains of Olympus or Ghost of Sparta and check that the listing names the title and format.
- Used hardware: Check that the handheld’s UMD drive reads discs and that the battery and screen are in working condition.
- Digital copies: The 2010 bundle voucher and the PSPgo announcement are historical. They do not establish whether either game is still sold on a PlayStation storefront today.
What the official sources establish and what they do not
The official series page and Sony’s 2010 announcements establish one point: both games were released for the PSP in 2008 and 2010. They do not establish current digital availability, regional sales on a specific storefront, or whether a re-release exists. If you are looking for a current download, check the PlayStation Store directly rather than relying on the 2010 materials.
