Ubisoft has officially confirmed one canceled game by name: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, which the company stopped developing in January 2026. Reporting on the same reset describes five more canceled projects, but none of them has been publicly identified in the coverage available. This article covers that January 2026 group. It does not provide a complete list of every Ubisoft cancellation across all years.
The confirmed cancellation: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
On 30 January 2026, the Prince of Persia Team published an official statement confirming that development of the Sands of Time remake had stopped. The team said the game had real potential but had not reached the level of quality players deserve. It also said that finishing it would have required more time and investment than Ubisoft could responsibly commit. The statement added that the decision did not mean Ubisoft was leaving the franchise.
The statement reads, in part:
“We’ve made the difficult decision to stop development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.”
“While the project had real potential, we weren’t able to reach the level of quality you deserve, and continuing would have required more time and investment than we could responsibly commit.”

The five other January 2026 projects
A report dated 21 January 2026 described the reset as covering the remake plus four unannounced projects, including three new intellectual properties, and a mobile title. A later summary from Push Square grouped the same five projects as one unnamed game, three new IPs, and one mobile game. Reporting from GameSpot and Push Square counts six canceled projects in total, including the remake.

Do not attach franchise names to the five unnamed projects. Some titles have been discussed in connection with Ubisoft’s cancellations online, but the reporting reviewed does not confirm them as canceled.
Games often mentioned that are not confirmed canceled
- The Division Heartland. Ubisoft announced it in May 2021 as a standalone free-to-play game in development at Red Storm. That announcement shows the game was in development at the time. The reporting reviewed does not establish its final status or include an official cancellation statement, so it does not appear on the confirmed list.
- Ghost Recon Frontline and Project Q. Both have been linked to Ubisoft cancellation discussions, but the reporting reviewed does not confirm either one as canceled.
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia. Ubisoft described both as franchise releases in its 2024 retrospective. They are separate from the Sands of Time remake and are not among the canceled projects in the reporting reviewed.
How to check whether a Ubisoft game was canceled
- Look for an official statement from Ubisoft or the studio team. The January 2026 remake is confirmed by a signed statement, not by rumor.
- Check whether the report names the project or describes it only by category. Category-only reports confirm that a project was canceled without confirming which one.
- Treat an older development announcement as evidence that work was planned, not that it ended. A cancellation needs its own report or statement.
Following these checks will keep an unconfirmed title off a cancellation list until a reliable source documents its status.
