In the dragons’ ancient history, the threat is Galakrond, a corrupted proto-dragon who began devouring his own kind. In Dragonflight’s opening conflict, Raszageth is the named instigator: she frees her siblings, the Incarnates, from their Titan prison.
Blizzard also describes an “ancient enemy” awakening the Dracthyr, but that recap does not name the enemy in that passage. The wording alone therefore does not establish that it is Galakrond or Raszageth.
Who is the ancient enemy in Dragonflight’s ancient history?
Galakrond is the ancient dragon threat in the Aspects’ origin story. Blizzard’s recap of the Dragon Aspects’ story says he became corrupted and began devouring other proto-dragons. Keeper Tyr warned the keepers and guided proto-dragons who would become the Aspects in the fight against him.
This places Galakrond in the distant past of Dragonflight’s lore; it does not make him the sole antagonist of the expansion’s present-day story.

Who starts Dragonflight’s opening conflict?
Raszageth is the named leader behind the Incarnates’ return. Blizzard’s Dragonflight overview says the Primalists breach the Titan prison and Raszageth performs a ritual to free her siblings. Those siblings are the Incarnates, who become the target of the early Vault of the Incarnates raid.
So, if “ancient enemy” means the threat driving the opening conflict, Raszageth and the Incarnates are the relevant names. That is a contextual reading of Blizzard’s overview, not an explicit identification of the unnamed enemy in the Dracthyr passage.

What does the Dracthyr recap say about an “ancient enemy”?
In Blizzard’s story recap, the Dracthyr are awakened by an “ancient enemy” after a terrible battle leaves the Forbidden Reach abandoned. The sentence does not identify that enemy. Read alongside Blizzard’s account of Raszageth freeing the Incarnates, it belongs to the same broad story context, but it is not itself a name reveal.
The recap also presents Keeper Tyr speaking to Malygos about the proto-dragons’ potential: “I have watched you. I have watched the others. I see much potential in you, in these friends of yours…and I say that as someone who has watched many of your kind since the first of you began to stir toward self-consciousness.” That passage helps frame the Aspects’ origins, while Galakrond is the named threat in their ancient history.

How the two answers differ
| Story reading | Identity | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient dragon history | Galakrond | Corrupted proto-dragon who devoured his kind and was opposed by the proto-dragons who became the Aspects. |
| Dragonflight’s opening events | Raszageth and the Incarnates | Raszageth frees her siblings from their Titan prison; the Incarnates are the threat addressed by the early raid. |
| Dracthyr awakening passage | Unidentified “ancient enemy” | The recap says this enemy awakened the Dracthyr but does not name it in that passage. |
What is the Vault of the Incarnates?
The Vault of the Incarnates is Dragonflight’s first raid, according to Blizzard’s overview. It has eight encounters and is available in four difficulties: Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic.
