What happens in the game?
Amy Rose hosts a murder-mystery party aboard the Mirage Express. Sonic appears to be the victim, and you play a new train employee investigating what happened by questioning familiar characters. The presentation combines a visual-novel mystery with point-and-click investigation, hand-drawn characters and settings, and comedy. The premise is fictional; the game is not reporting a real event.

Is the game part of Sonic canon?
Steam treats the question playfully under the heading “Canon or Headcanon?” Its joke that “everything is canon” is immediately qualified: “This is not a Sonic Team title, but we strongly believe in the power of headcanon!” That wording is not a definitive ruling on the game’s place in Sonic continuity. Launch coverage described the project as an April Fools gag that became a full game.

In an April 6, 2023 report, Game Developer reported that more than 1 million people had tried the game during its launch period. That is a historical figure, not a current player or download count. The report also quoted Katie Chrzanowski, Sonic social media manager at Sega of America, describing the response as “absolutely unreal.”
