Faye is Laufey: Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother in the Norse-era God of War story. Her death and final wish launch the journey in God of War (2018), while the announced God of War Laufey puts her in the lead role.
Who is Faye in God of War?
“Faye” is the name used for Laufey in the Norse-era games. She is Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother. Though she is absent from most of God of War (2018)’s present-day action, her choices and influence shape the story from its opening onward. PlayStation’s official series page and its story recap for God of War Ragnarök identify her family role and describe the journey that begins after her funeral.
Why does Faye’s death matter in God of War (2018)?
The game opens with Kratos and Atreus preparing for Faye’s funeral. Her final wish is for them to scatter her ashes at the highest peak in all the realms, sending father and son on the journey at the center of the game. Faye also taught Atreus archery and hunting, skills that matter to his life and to the pair’s travels.
What kind of character was Faye?
Faye was more than a family presence. PlayStation’s official God of War Laufey page describes her as a guardian of the Jötnar, a rebel leader against the Aesir, protector of the Wildwoods, and a warrior famed among the Giants. These descriptions establish her connection to the Jötnar and her reputation as a warrior and leader; they do not explicitly classify her as a goddess.
