Notable people reported playing Fortnite together include streamer Ninja, musicians Drake and Travis Scott, Kim Dotcom, and NFL player JuJu Smith-Schuster. That 2018 session is a documented example, not a complete list or proof that they still play. For the broader audience, Ofcom reported 2.65 million active Fortnite users on Xbox and PlayStation in the UK in May 2024—a dated regional measure, not a current worldwide total.
Which celebrities and public figures played Fortnite?
TIME reported that in March 2018, Ninja played Fortnite with Drake, Travis Scott, Kim Dotcom, and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. It is one notable session, not a definitive list of famous Fortnite players or evidence of anyone’s current gaming habits. TIME’s 2018 report also quoted community manager and streamer Erin Wayne, who played as Aureylian, describing how the game could be fun without demanding high skill: “With Fortnite, I can be not good, and log in and play and have fun, and not have to feel that stigma.”
How many people played Fortnite?
Ofcom’s Online Nation 2024 report, using Ampere Games Analytics data, recorded 2.65 million active Fortnite users across Xbox and PlayStation in the UK in May 2024. Fortnite was the second most popular game measured across those platforms that month. The report also put average Fortnite playtime at 17 hours per gamer in that month across the two platforms.
These figures have specific limits: they cover the UK, Xbox and PlayStation, and May 2024. Ofcom describes the measure as active users/accounts, which can differ from other market measures. It is not a current live count, a worldwide total, or a count across every device where Fortnite is available.

What does “playing Fortnite” include?
Fortnite is not only Battle Royale. Epic’s 2024 ecosystem review, published January 22, 2025, says more than 70% of Fortnite players played both Epic-made and creator-made games. It reports that creator-made games accounted for 5.23 billion hours, or 36.5% of total Fortnite playtime in 2024. Those are company-reported ecosystem figures about experiences and time spent, not a demographic profile of individual players.
Epic names social roleplay, party games, deathruns, and horror among growing creator-made genres without combat. So a person playing Fortnite may be visiting a creator-made island or social experience rather than playing Battle Royale.

Can public data show who plays Fortnite?
Epic’s Data API, announced May 28, 2025, makes some island-level activity measures available, including unique players, plays, peak concurrent players, minutes played, and retention. These measures can describe activity in a particular Epic-made or creator-made experience; they do not establish a complete profile of Fortnite’s entire player base.
The available figures here do not establish a current global player count or a reliable, complete breakdown of players by age, gender, income, or other demographics. A statistic about one region, platform set, month, or game mode should not be presented as if it describes everyone who plays Fortnite.
