If you mean Pokémon GO, you have to win a Tornadus raid first, then catch it using the limited Premier Balls awarded for that encounter. Bring Electric-, Ice-, or Rock-type attackers, use a Golden Razz Berry, and time accurate curveball throws for when Tornadus’s target reappears. This advice concerns Pokémon GO raids; it does not explain how to catch Tornadus in every Pokémon game.
Make the raid encounter easier
Choose effective attackers
Pokémon.com’s Tornadus raid guide recommends Electric-, Ice-, and Rock-type attacks. Its examples include Rampardos, Electivire, and Magnezone, as well as Ice attackers Weavile, Glaceon, and Mamoswine. The right team can help you defeat the raid boss and reach the catch encounter.

Weather can favor different attack types: snow boosts Ice damage, rain favors Electric attackers, and cloudy conditions boost Rock attackers. These are recommendations from the guide, not a guarantee about the weather or raid conditions in a future event. Read Pokémon.com’s Tornadus raid guide.
Earn and conserve Premier Balls
In the encounter described by Pokémon.com’s 2020 guide, the Premier Balls earned by defeating Tornadus are the only balls available for that catch attempt. Battling with friends can provide additional balls, according to the guide. Since the supply is limited, prioritize throws you can land accurately rather than rushing or taking risky shots.

Improve your throws
- Use a Golden Razz Berry before a throw. Pokémon.com recommends using one for each attempt.
- Wait for Tornadus’s movement. Let it begin its action animation and wait for the target ring to disappear. Time your throw so the ball reaches Tornadus when the target returns.
- Throw a curveball at a ring size you can hit consistently. Aim for a small ring when you can reliably land an Excellent throw; curveballs can further improve the chance. If Excellent throws are making you miss, settle for a more reliable Nice or Great throw instead.
The guide gives no numerical catch rate for Tornadus, so there is no sourced percentage to use to predict how many throws it will take. Pokémon.com’s 2020 guide is a Tornadus-specific walkthrough, not a current event notice.
Is Tornadus available in raids now?
A past schedule cannot confirm current availability. Pokémon.com listed both Incarnate and Therian Forme Tornadus in five-star raids during its July 2026 Pokémon GO Fest event schedule. That event is in the past as of October 8, 2026, and its notice does not establish whether Tornadus is in raids now. Check the in-game raid listings or a current official event announcement. What if you mean a different Pokémon game?
The Tornadus-specific catch instructions here apply to Pokémon GO’s raid encounter. Pokémon.com’s general Pokémon GO page describes raids as challenging battles that may require Trainers to join together; defeating the boss gives you a chance to add it to your team.
