Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If you can’t find an Xbox controller, that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a general shortage. Microsoft’s U.S. Store lists the standard Xbox Wireless Controller in multiple colors while showing some other editions as out of stock. Stock depends on the specific model, seller, and region, so check alternate colors and retailers before concluding that controllers are unavailable.
Is there a general Xbox controller shortage?
The available evidence does not establish a broad or worldwide shortage. Microsoft’s U.S. Store page distinguishes between the standard Xbox Wireless Controller and other editions: the page lists standard color options and provides a purchase interface for a selected Robot White variant, while some separate editions are marked out of stock. That is a snapshot of one retailer’s U.S. listings, not a guarantee of stock everywhere.
Inventory and delivery estimates can change, and availability may differ by country, retailer, color, or edition. A product page that is missing, unavailable, or marked out of stock tells you about that particular listing at that time; it does not establish that every Xbox controller is unavailable.
Why might the controller you want be hard to find?
The listing is for a particular color or edition
Standard colors, special editions, and limited editions can have different stock status. Check whether the unavailable item is a particular color or design rather than the standard controller as a whole. Microsoft’s U.S. Store listing shows differing options and stock labels, so verify the exact item and seller before relying on an availability claim.

Your region or retailer has different inventory
The Microsoft Store evidence here applies to its U.S. storefront. It cannot establish availability in another country, at a local shop, or through another retailer. Check the seller’s current stock, delivery estimate, and return terms in your own region.
Console cost news does not explain controller stockouts
In a June 25, 2026 post about Xbox console prices, Team Xbox said console storage and memory prices had risen by more than 2.5 times. The post discusses console cost pressures; it does not say those costs caused Xbox controller shortages or out-of-stock listings. Read the Xbox Wire console price update.

What to check before buying a different listing
- Look beyond one color or edition. Compare the standard controller’s available colors with any special or limited edition you were seeking. Check whether the exact item is in stock, rather than assuming a page’s general “Out of stock?” prompt describes every controller on the page.
- Confirm compatibility with your device. Microsoft lists the controller for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10/11, Android, and iOS, with some functionality depending on the device and connection. Xbox consoles connect using Xbox Wireless; Bluetooth is listed for Windows PCs, tablets, iOS, and Android, subject to compatibility limits. If you plan to use Xbox Wireless on a PC, Windows Central’s guide says a separately sold dongle is required. See Windows Central’s Xbox controller guide.
- Compare the full purchase terms. Check the current total price, seller, delivery estimate, and return terms for the exact model and color. Prices and delivery details are volatile; confirm them with the seller before ordering.
- Make sure an accessory solves the right problem. Microsoft lists an Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C accessory separately. It can address power needs for a controller you already own, but it is not a replacement for a second controller.
How to interpret Xbox controller prices

The listed amounts were $64.99 for the Xbox Wireless Controller (Core), $69.99 for a color controller, $79.99 for a special edition, and $89.99 for a limited edition. Those figures are dated U.S. list prices; check the current local price and final total with the seller. View Xbox’s May 1, 2025 U.S. recommended retail price sheet.
