Brawlhalla support identifies the firewall/antivirus and network restrictions as common causes, but no single check proves which one applies. Check for an official service notice first, then narrow down the problem before changing network settings.
First, check whether Brawlhalla may be having a service problem
Before changing settings on your device or router, check Brawlhalla’s official notices and Ubisoft help resources for maintenance or an outage. Ubisoft recommends checking for service incidents before troubleshooting a game connection (Ubisoft Help). The official sources reviewed for this article do not confirm a current Brawlhalla outage, so that should not be read as proof that servers are working now. A past server incident is not evidence of a present one.
Work out whether the problem is limited to Brawlhalla
Try another online game or service on the same device and network. If several services fail, investigate the internet connection or network first. If other online services work and only Brawlhalla is affected, a game-specific security rule or blocked network traffic is more relevant. This comparison helps narrow the possibilities, but it is not a conclusive diagnostic test.
Also ask whether friends can connect, especially friends using a different platform or network. Brawlhalla supports cross-platform play and is available on Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS (Brawlhalla). A platform by itself does not identify the cause; include it when asking for help.

Check firewall and antivirus restrictions
Brawlhalla support says one common cause is a firewall or antivirus rule on the player’s machine blocking the game. Review the security software’s application rules and allow Brawlhalla to communicate through the firewall if it has been blocked.
If you need to test whether security software is responsible, follow its vendor’s instructions for a brief diagnostic test, then turn protection back on. Do not leave your firewall or antivirus disabled. If the test points to a block, use an appropriate Brawlhalla exception rather than keeping protection off. Consider router or managed-network restrictions
Brawlhalla support also identifies a router or network blocking the game’s traffic as a common cause, and notes that this can happen on school networks. Its guidance lists ports 23,000–24,000 and 33,000–34,000 as ranges to try opening when traffic is being blocked. These are conditional troubleshooting suggestions, not a reason to change every router by default.
- On a home network: Check the router’s rules or ask the person who manages it to review whether Brawlhalla traffic is blocked. Only make changes you understand and are authorized to make.
- At school, work, or another managed network: Contact the network administrator. You may not have permission to change its settings, and the administrator can determine whether the network allows the required traffic.

Try Ethernet if the issue involves wireless connection quality
If you are on Wi-Fi and experiencing lag or an unstable connection, test with Ethernet if practical. Brawlhalla and Ubisoft recommend a wired connection as a way to investigate connection quality or steadiness. A cable does not establish that an outage or blocked traffic has been fixed, so use this test only when wireless quality may be part of the problem.
