If you cannot publish at all, check whether a playtest is still running and whether the place exceeds Roblox’s 100 MB limit. If publishing works but other people cannot access the game, check its audience setting and the requirements for that audience.
First, distinguish publishing from making a game public
In Roblox Studio, publishing stores the start place’s data model in the cloud and connects it to your account. For a new experience, use File > Publish to Roblox, fill in the experience details, and click Create. A new game is private by default.
To change who can play, use the experience’s audience settings in Creator Dashboard. Private access is limited to the owner and users with Edit permissions. Limited access is for a selected group—for example, playtesters, friends on user-owned games, or community members on group-owned games—and is not generally discoverable. Public makes the experience available and discoverable to the general public. Sharing a landing-page link does not make a private game public. Roblox’s publishing documentation explains the workflow and access settings.
Fix the common Studio and place-size problems
“Publish to Roblox” is greyed out
Stop the active playtest, then try again. Roblox’s tutorial gives this specific fix: “If Publish to Roblox is greyed out, make sure you stopped your playtest.” See Roblox Creator Hub’s “Test and save” tutorial.

The place is over the size limit
Roblox documents a maximum place size of 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes). Above that limit, Save to Roblox and Publish to Roblox might fail. To check roughly, export a .rbxl copy and inspect its file size. If it is too large, look for redundant parts or assets and inefficient terrain. Roblox also says Studio creates recovery files when saving fails because of the size limit. The limit and recommendations are in Roblox’s place-file documentation.
Check the audience requirements
Roblox’s requirements depend on the audience you are trying to reach. They can apply when publishing a new experience, updating a public place, publishing to a different game, or changing certain audience settings. The current Creator Hub requirements are summarized below; Roblox’s live rules and fees can change.

These are audience-specific conditions, not universal requirements to save a place or publish for a 16+ audience. See Roblox’s publishing requirements and its age-specific publishing guidance for current details.
Additional steps for under-16 audiences
For Roblox Kids and Select access, Roblox says creators under 18 must verify through facial age estimation, while creators 18 or older must use government ID. The creator must also enable 2-Step Verification and complete a successful evaluation. The evaluation includes a trial phase and safety review; Roblox lists a benchmark of 250 unique plays by highly engaged age-checked users within a 60-day window. Roblox describes a subscription route—an active Plus or Premium subscription for two consecutive months—or a one-time refundable publishing fee of 1,000 Robux. An optional 50,000 Robux one-time refundable expedited-review fee is intended to accelerate review; it does not waive the same content standards. Roblox says the subscription or fee is needed when publishing a new game or updating one for all-ages audiences. If the subscription later expires, the game remains published for all ages. These conditions and figures are from Roblox’s live documentation accessed October 8, 2026, and may change. They are not general fees for saving a place or publishing to 16+ audiences. Roblox also documents a daily limit of up to five never-before-public private games made public per day. Switching a game that was public before to private and back to public does not count toward that limit. If the documented checks above do not fit what you see, the available guidance does not establish a universal cause for every failed publish action. The exact Studio error message, intended audience setting, and place size are needed to diagnose the next step reliably.
