The official product name matters: this is a two-game package, not simply Kiwami 3 with Dark Ties as downloadable story content. SEGA describes the first game as a remake of Yakuza 3 (2009) and the second as an all-new, separate story.
What are the two stories about?
Yakuza Kiwami 3
After the Omi Alliance conflict, Kazuma Kiryu leaves the Tojo Clan in Daigo Dojima’s hands and moves to Okinawa with Haruka. He runs the Morning Glory orphanage, but a government-backed resort deal threatens the home. A Tojo succession dispute and a political conspiracy pull Kiryu back into conflict.

Dark Ties
The separate Dark Ties story follows Yoshitaka Mine, tracing his path from successful startup entrepreneur to hardened yakuza as he searches for meaningful bonds. It is included in the package alongside Kiryu’s story.

What the sales figure does—and does not—mean
SEGA said on February 12, 2026 that the Like a Dragon franchise had surpassed 27.7 million standalone game units sold worldwide. That is a franchise-wide total, not sales for Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties.
